Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmine , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Modeling is a beautiful unique expression of art. Typically when you create, it’s more so automatic than it is manual. Learning this craft was something I don’t feel I had to learn, but more so something I had to awaken within myself. This is a gift from God, meaning this was something predestined to take place uniquely designed for me. Modeling is something that grew, like a planted seed waiting to sprout in its due season. I had to grow a relationship with the skillset and talent that was already placed on the inside of me since birth. In order to grow a relationship with this gift, I had to grow closer to God and create the space to learn him. The deeper I dived into my spirituality and faith, the more this passion lit up on the inside of me. The flame grew and so did my techniques. Asking me, “How did you learn to do what you do?” is a tricky question because I didn’t rely on YouTube, college, or books to create me nor did I purchase webinars on “How to become a model.” I relied on God and his strength alone to create me and to produce this gift internally.
As humans, we tend to water down our uniqueness and the severity of our individuality. This was something I had partaken in early on in my journey. This was a casual Tuesday evening hobby that turned into a lifelong burning passion so I wasn’t always secure in knowing that this was the path for me. I felt inadequate most of the time because everything was so new, including my relationship with myself. I even considered quitting a couple times. To speed up this learning process, I would go back and do more positive self-talk and I would stop watering down my uniqueness as an individual. Being your own hype man is such a necessary asset in this process. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will, and depending on the weight of your belief will determine the outcome of your success and the pace at which it is produced.
The skills that are most essential to this learning process would have to be decision-making and self-awareness. You have to be sure of who you are and always be aware of your aura. Being aware of your aura will help usher you into a place of confidence and expansion. You will notice your demeanor change as well as your morals and beliefs about yourself. Being aware helps develop main character energy. Decision-making is always a skill I constantly have to master and tend to on a daily. From picking your clothes to directing a creative shoot, a decision always has to be made. Locations, colors, lighting, extras, props, etc. all rely on your decisions as a model entrepreneur, especially when you’re running the whole show from the ground up, no help.
Obstacles that stood in my way were moments of inconsistency and a lack of faith in my abilities. Due to the lack of faith, I had carried at the beginning of my modeling journey, I lacked consistency heavy and still struggle with it today. The lack of consistency determines the number of likes, views, and traffic you get on your social media account. If you don’t show up, you don’t exist so my advice is to show up daily even when you don’t feel like doing so. Social media has access to plant seeds in your mind which is why it is vital to create a healthy relationship with your screen time. Too much consuming and you’ll find yourself creating less and less. Don’t let it become a liability or an obstacle.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jasmine Jones but people know me as TXPRETTYJASS. I am a model based in Austin, Texas with experience in commercial shoots, brand deals, social media, editorial modeling, videography, and runway shows. I am currently a freelance model and entrepreneur, working with the Texas Fashion Industry Initiative Fresh Face Program 2023 and many local photographers in Texas. I started modeling after high school, just taking pictures for fun with the intent of never becoming a model. My first picture was in my front bedroom and I would take casual selfies using natural sunlight in the evenings. It wasn’t until later when I got my first car, I started taking pictures in different outfits that birthed my creativity with fashion. I didn’t see myself as a model nor someone of influence because I felt at this time that I was meant to live a simplistic life with a regular 9-5 and a boss who tells me when I can breathe. My career took a turn for the better when I had my first official shoot with @photo.jay who’s an excellent artist himself. We began networking and decided to collaborate on a photoshoot. After the shoot, I knew immediately that I would like to take my work more seriously. That was the first piece of the pie and I wanted seconds. What sets me apart from others is my belief system. My ambition for this craft is underrated and I like to think of myself as a hidden gem. I’m taking this further than Instagram pictures and tik tok videos. When I create, I allow my mindset to broaden, knocking out all low vibrational thoughts and the lack mindset I may operate in. This brand is more than a social media account. This is a corporation. I am a corporation. And because I operate at that conscious level, I can expand my way of thinking, network, and net worth. Few models in the industry have this mindset. Social media clout isn’t the focal point, I’m just having fun doing what I love to do. I was made and built for moments such as this one. I am most proud of my demeanor and character. I take pride in my work but who I am matters to me the most. Knowing myself and taking the time to ground myself in faith, has not always been easy but has been very rewarding and I’m just grateful to God that I’m still here, as his living vessel. At the end of the day I’m doing his work and I’m proud to be Jasmine Jones.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Confidence is not the true nature of your physical attributes.
On this journey of healing and continuously finding myself, I have learned that many traits and qualities one may possess all receive life based on the perspective of the individual. One may think the grass is greener on the other side while some may think otherwise. Growing into who I have become today required many notions of honesty on my part. Honest about my beliefs, morals, and truest intentions towards self. When confidence became a necessity of health and expansion, I was sure that I was firmly confident given my physical beauty and all of those who found me worthy of praise in response to my physical attributes. Until one day my physical attributes failed me. Every woman has her week, her day, her month. You wake up feeling inadequate because your body or face isn’t up to par and when you look in the mirror your body doesn’t meet the standards of the social society we indulge in daily known as social media. So you welt away in your negative self-talk because your skin isn’t clear today or your stomach is creeping over your pants at the waist. Until I experienced this moment and received divine wisdom on the subject, I thought I had confidence down packed but I was mistakenly wrong. I find myself mastering this skill daily, even as I respond to these questions. You see, confidence is an inward notion, designed and crafted by God. It’s a sense of knowing that your knowledge, capabilities, and skillset will catapult you in this lifetime. You just know that you know you were meant for greatness and nothing less. Having this sense of knowing creates space for productivity and conducive growth. Confidence is hyphenated by your thoughts and emotions towards yourself. Your thoughts fertilize the ground in which your confidence seed has been planted. So ask yourself, who are you? What knowledge can you rely on in times of inadequacy? What strengths override the physical beauty that makes you, you? What qualities do you possess within that exude your highest self?

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist would have to be freedom. Freedom to me is having the accessibility to create without barriers or restraints. To carry an aura of uniqueness and favor is a treat that one can’t ask for but is given. When I model, I feel I am a part of an ecosystem with like-minded individuals. This community and environment is so refreshing to my creative senses that it would be criminal to not pour into this gift energetically. Doing something you love to do is one thing, but doing something you were called to do is another. There’s a fundamental difference between the two and each give their own reward. For many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14. Walking in your purpose is the most rewarding treasure you can obtain and when I’m in this space I feel I experience the meaning of freedom and liberation.
