We recently connected with Jasmine Jenkins and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
When I look back on my life I can’t help but to look at the different routes I could have taken that would have put me so ahead of the game. First thing I would have change was going to college and got my license in esthetics while I was still in high school. In my high school they offered technical classes and I could have graduated with little to no debt and still be in the field that I am in now. Not only I would be licensed but also licensed as a cosmetologist so I could have been able to offer more services and not just in esthetics hair as well. So looking back going that route, I would have open many more doors for me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It started with an idea and ended with a career. 2020 was a crazy year for me. I found myself without a job due to Covid. I have always worked for others helping them reach their goals while I was lost in what I wanted to do. I was always fascinated with skin, especially MINE! Look I’m 34 years old and me having adult acne was the worst. I had to figure it out and I saw that a lot of people dealt with the same skin issues. I made that my goal. I want to help everyone find what works for them and help them find their own skincare routine.

Have you ever had to pivot?
COVID hit and there I was no job. at this point in my life I was working in the childcare field for 10 years and counting. with so much experience under my belt no of that mattered when COVID hit. My job was considered non essential so I didn’t qualify for nothing that was being offered for assistance. So I had to take a real step back and figure out my next move. After giving it thought I said I was gonna bet on myself and go for what I really want. That is when I went back to school (after being out of school for 15 years) and got my licensed as an esthetictian. I open my shop right after and never looked back. I took that leap of faith and finally found my happiness.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This Journey of entrepreneurship was not an easy one. Funding your own business while dealing with the many covid restrictions was hard. So every dime I made was going back to my business, bills, and everyday life things. I am a single mom to an amazing daughter who is very active at school and church. So giving up wasn’t in my plans. I just had to learn what to let go that didn’t benefit my plan of success. I cut down on my social life an took care of what was important and it is finally starting to pay off. I am finally seeing profits and love that my business if growing in the right direction.
