We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?

To be successful I think it takes growth, consistency, and dedication. You also have to learn how to pace yourself and understand that timing plays a major factor in the journey as well. Success is measured by how you decide to run your race. Steady or fast doesn’t matter as long as you move and make progress.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Sure! I’m Jasmine Jackson. I got into the beauty industry in 2016 once I invested in my first makeup class and every since then I’ve been climbing up the ladder. I offer makeup application services for a variety of different avenues. I also have my own cosmetics line called “CMPLEXIONS” which has a variety of makeup products! We cater to all different hues of beauty! If you are looking for luxurious products, Cmplexions by J’Dior Beauty is for you!

What I feel sets me apart from others is that I’m myself at all times. I’m humble and always a student no matter how far I get within my career path. I ask questions still, & observe and listen when needed.

What I’m most proud of at this current moment is having my products from my cosmetics line “CMPLEXIONS” used on Chris Brown by his makeup artist/groomer “Nikki Parisi”.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.

Yes! I did actually. Makeup was most definitely a side hustle for me. However in 2016 after I invested in my very first makeup class I decided to take it more seriously and that created the opportunity for me to become a full time entrepreneur.

From there I kept investing in my craft, I took more classes, and started to network which is what begin to start opening doors for me to get where I’am today.

Some key milestones were becoming a salon owner, gaining celebrity clientele, working on movie sets and performing work for runway models in NYFW, & having my products being used on superstars such as Chris Brown.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

A story I always tell that I feel made me resilient is coming from a small county called Cumberland, Virginia. I had to work incredibly hard to travel to different states outside of Virginia to get myself out there. There were many losses that I took loud and silently but I keep going even when I didn’t know what was next for me. That alone made me feel resilient to defeat the odds.
