We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
During the pandemic when everything was shut down or had limited access, I went on the hunt for a new location for my business. I wasn’t really thinking “big” at the time. I just wanted something nice and convenient for my clients. I came across a store front that was available for lease and I called to set up a walk through. I never thought it was something that I could do, but with a couple of months of negotiations they practically gave me the space! It was truly God showing out in my life and showing me what I am really capable of achieving.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
As a kid I was always intrigued by the beauty industry. I would play in my grandmothers makeup and my aunts nail polish and hair products. I started cheerleading and dancing competitively and it required us to wear makeup. So I took full advantage and played with looks every chance I could get! In college I would do my friends makeup for events and parties. I worked in the film and television industry after graduating, but after discovering me being pregnant I decided to find something a bit more stable. I had no makeup retail experience, but I tried anyway! A month later I was hired at MAC Cosmetics in Atlanta and my love for makeup quickly became a passion. In 2015, I enrolled back in school to become an esthetician. It was one of the most challenging year of my life! Being a single mom, working full time with a part time job, and going to school in the evening, exhausted was an understatement. In my heart I new I was being prepared for something bigger! That following year I was certified in lash extensions and Microblading. In 2017 I was fired from MAC, it was ok though because I learned so much from working there and I already had seeds planted that were ready to bloom! I started doing brows in the back of my friends barbershop! I knew it was only a temporary situation so I found my first suite to grow my business. In 2018 I made it official and created the structure for my business and Command Beauty was born! After a few years of freelancing and building my brow business the world shut down! Covid 19 came through a shifted the world! I was pregnant with my second child and still trying to maintain my own mental health. I knew it was time to look for a new space, even though businesses were closing and people were literally losing everything, God had a different plan for me. While others were down sizing I was expanding!! I had a clear vision and I stuck to it!
Command Beauty is once again shifting to a new era. We offer more than brows and lashes now. We are a beauty and wellness center with a range from brows to skin care to make up to womb and energy healing.
I really take pride in creating a safe space for my clients to feel comfortable and valued! It’s not just about your brows being nice, it’s about you leaving the studio feeling more confident and beautiful! Feeling better about your self and allowing your beauty to command attention!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Every body will not see or understand your vision. And that’s ok. Everyone is not meant to go with you in your next season. And that’s ok. You will out grow relationships and places and people. And that’s ok! As an entrepreneur I had to learn the art of detachment. Accepting growth and change and being grateful for each experience.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Earlier in the year I had a major shift in my business. A few of my team members were ready to grow and expand on their own, which is extremely exciting! However, that meant I needed to rebuild my team. So starting from scratch was kind of scary, but I stayed focused on connecting with good people who are talented in their specialties and needed space to operate their businesses. I was a little nervous because it was unknown to me. My first time experiencing this situation. With a lot of prayer and faith I was reconnected with a classmate who was looking for a space to operate out of and brought two more people with her! Lol it’s funny how life works. With change came major blessings not only for the team, but for our clients! This shift taught me to never lose sight of my goals. Hold tight to my dream and always stay locked in on my vision. Never let someone else talk you out of your mission in life. Other wise you will find your self backed in a corner with your feelings hurt.
