We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine J-Su a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In my lifetime, I’ve taken many risks. Although I don’t consider myself to be a risk taker however the risks that were taken were necessary for my survival and growth.
After working for my former employer for 4 years, I decided while sitting in my cubicle that I was ready to level up in my life. The epiphany happened when I saw a flyer while working that announced the retirement of a woman that was a customer service representative. She had been working there for almost 30 or 35 years. While I was happy for her fulfillment as an employer at the job, I couldn’t help but become frustrated that the flyer foreshadowed my future in the same position.
So then on, I would apply for other positions within the company. Whether it was a lateral move or another department on a different floor. I truly was determined to seek a higher ladder than just being on the front line of the company. After various interviews/meetings with managers, call coachings, and other entities that could possibly be contributed to my leveling up. I couldn’t help but feel depressed and displeased with the results.
In 2017, I converted that empty feeling to finding my production company B.O.S.S. Certified Productions. I would answer calls and feed my new business all at the same time. However, I still continued my plan of moving up within the company.
A year later, I made the decision after reading my new schedule in an email that today is the day that I’m resigning from the company. After working so hard on self-improvement within the company to not get a late schedule seems like the odds were still against me.
I took the risk of leaving a secure job to seek my passion for becoming a filmmaker.
Although the Journey has been tough and challenging nevertheless I have not looked back on my efforts to be one of the most successful filmmakers of my generation. I use the risk as a value lesson to this day.
The Journey is still in continuation …
Jasmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Jasmine J-Su professionally. I’m a videographer, editor, and filmmaker. I started my production company in 2017 called B.O.S.S. Certified Productions.
My goal is to bring your vision to a visual. Whether that is through a promo video, music video, short film, featured film, etc.
Creating a vision through creativity, and executing a strategy precisely is the goal. Clients often have ideas and visions about how they want their audience to perceive them but are unsure how the visual should look.
I must articulate their ideas and vision in a creative and mind-blowing video. Everything down to the color schemes is taken into consideration to produce the visual art form,
I am most proud of the people who continue to support and believe in my production of videos that send messages to the masses.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I build my reputation by staying consistent. I continued to post videos on and off social media and my clients did so as well. Upon the posting/sharing of videos, the storytelling that goes with it is captivating and highlighting to the viewer’s eye therefore it reaches a new audience and potential client.
Each visual is unique to its own therefore it attracts a new audience of the general population.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My Jourmey is being pushed because I’m driven through my assignment. to spread awareness and messaging through my visuals. My goal is to become one of the most successful filmmakers of my generation. This motivates me to reach my goal and more personally and professionally.
