We were lucky to catch up with Jasmin’e Gentry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmin’e, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Starting business a few months prior to Covid 19 shutting the world Down completely, was a roller coaster. Fearing that I would have to close due to not being able to afford being shut down, I decided to take my last $200 and put it towards buying product to make soaps and other cosmetics for the skin. I had only 4 products on my line and with all the down time I had, I knew I needed to research, learn and prefect some more recipes. I took the entire time to put everything into my business literally my last and now we are upto 56 different soaps, oils, scrubs, Shea butters and more! I went from shipping 5 orders a month to shipping about 40 every week,
Jasmin’e, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began this journey taking a chance by introducing my clients to something new and some would even say unorthodox. I begin Yoni steaming/ vaginal steaming in 2019, this new practice was popular in some areas and unknown in many other areas. I was a teenage mother and learned the yoni steaming process from a doula for after having a natural birth, although my daughter had different plans and I had to get a cesarean. I still practiced yoni steaming once I healed and I loved the results and how it helped with my recovery. I knew I had to share the word to help others.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was family and friends will keep you in business. I had to learn that customers will keep you in business, I had to find my audience, find my target area and age. I had to actual do the leg work to give my business legs to grow. Now I have customers that not only return but also refer me to other family and friends.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
To see success customer service is one of the biggest factors in running a business. Customers want a genuine and efficient person. They want to feel you love what you do, you appreciate them as a customer and they want to feel like their needs are being token care of.
