We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Gannaway. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My business, Affluent Business Solutions, is dedicated to helping small business owners maximize their profits by providing bookkeeping and payroll services. I chose Affluent because it means wealth, which is my desire for my business as well as every business owner I service. It is my dream to be the first multi millionaire in my family!
Jasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jasmine Gannaway and I am a 34 year old woman from Memphis, TN. I was born and raised in Memphis. I graduated from Craigmont High and I just recently graduated from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I am currently an employee of Lighthouse Mission Ministries/Safe Harbor. I have been with this company for 10 years working as a payroll clerk and eventually becoming the payroll manager. Working this job helped me realize my passion for Business Administration and helping people with their accounting and office paperwork. In April of 2019, I was struck by a vehicle, which caused me to have both my legs amputated right above the knee. While in recovery, I realized I wanted to do something to empower myself as well as offer a service that can help someone else. I decided to start my own bookkeeping and payroll business for small business owners. My preferred platform is Quickbooks Online, which allows me to work with clients all over the US due to cloud technology. I am a certified Pro Advisor as well as a certified payroll advisor for QuicksBooks, so I am very knowledgeable of this field and their software. I am committed to offering my clients fast, efficient, and reliable service which will allow them grow and scale their business with peace of mind.
I want anyone reading this to know that whatever life hits you with, you have to get up and hit back! I am thankful to God for everything He has done in my life so I pray I can be a blessing to others!!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
About a month after my 30th birthday, I was struck by a vehicle in April of 2019 causing me to have both my legs amputated above the knee. For the first 3 years after my accident, I was confined to a wheelchair for the first time ever in my life. Before this, I had never so much as broken a bone, so this was huge adjustment for me. I was very independent and outgoing before, and now I needed someone to help cook, clean, and even drive me around. I needed help with just about everything so I went through a period of depression wishing I could walk again, but through the help of God, my family, friends, and my significant other, Shun, I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! I was able to realize all the blessings I still had in life such as a place to live, food to eat, and people around me who love, support, and care for me. I still use my wheelchair as my primary source of mobility at the moment, but I have prosthetic legs with microprocessor knees that I am learning to use. I consider this my journey of learning walk again!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is things will not always go as you plan. When I was younger, I had a plan as to how I thought my life would look, but of course, my plan and God’s plan were completely different.
