We recently connected with Jasmine Dshay and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

The biggest risk I have taken has been leaving everything and everyone I have known to pursue my dreams. I am the kind of person that goes wherever I feel led to go and do whatever I feel led to do. My ultimate purpose in life is to help change lives by utilizing all the gifts that God has given me to do so. I have lost people in my life that just did not understand why I would do the things I do. For example when I first decided to leave California and go on my journey in life to live and be who I am destined to be, I had a lot of people trying to talk me out of following my goals and living my dreams. One thing I live by is doing what you feel no matter what people think or say. I use to listen to people talk me out of my blessings and now that I know what I know and experienced the things I have experienced, I have become a force on my own. Along this journey, I have crossed paths with so many beautiful souls and like minded individuals that have supported me every step of the way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

For those of you reading about me for the first time, I am originally from Shreveport Louisiana and I moved to Florida back in 2011 and that was the start of my modeling career. I started building my portfolio using Model Mayhem. In 2012 I moved to San Francisco California where I began networking with a lot of different creatives in the industry. 2016 I moved to Los Angeles California to further my career. I was blessed to be able to do photo shoots, commercials, and be featured in music videos. I also had signed with Era Talent Agency and let’s just say I was booked and busy. I was working for a second hand fashion company and while I was on the job, I was approached by a woman who had complimented my look and she told me I should be on tv. At first I was thinking this woman was just being nice because that day I wore just a t-shirt and jeans with no makeup. I told her that all the things she said to me sounds nice but I just didn’t know where to get started. She then looked at me and said “I’ll tell you where to start. I have an agency.” I was very shocked because honestly during that time, work had gotten slow for me as an entrepreneur and I felt down on my luck. I had been praying for a miracle to happen in my career. The woman and I exchanged contact information and we had a meeting in her agency’s office. She introduced me to two other women and one of them said to me “I just want to tell you this now. We have no one that looks like you. Your features are so unique and beautiful.” I thanked her and they began to tell me more about the agency and what they do and how they could help me with my career. A few days after signing with the agency, I went to several auditions back to back and I started getting booked for commercials, modeling gigs, and acting gigs. I have worked with Xfinity, Disney, and more. Let me just say that if you ask, you shall receive and if you have faith, whatever you seek to accomplish, it is definitely possible.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Something I had to unlearn was comfortability. Never get too comfortable because a blessing could happen at any moment and if you get too comfortable, you just might miss the moment.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My creative journey is driven by nature, humanity, and spirituality. The key is to find a balance with all things you are passionate about and embracing the unknown.
