We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Drayton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I always knew I had a creative gene and I wanted to create something different and unique. With my sense of style and fashion, I came up with an idea that I felt would change the game. I created JDLeathers Brand. It’s a leather goods company that now has expanded. I’ve created cross body bags, I also came up with my own shoe concept. I partnered with Alive Shoes. Just having the ability to show my skills and knowing I can accomplish anything.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am single mother who was trying to think of ways to make more money. What can I do? What will bring me joy and other people as well. So I came up with this concept where I wanted other people to enjoy my products. And who my target audience will be. I chose to have my target audience to be both men and women. I provide customized products as well. Where folks can by my product but also add a little of their own flare to it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a point in my life where I was homeless. I didn’t let anything stop me from achieving my goals. I look at my children everyday and that’s enough encouragement for me.
How did you build your audience on social media?
You have to separate your business page from your personal page. Make a goal each day to post/re-share you product. Make sure you have all major outlets. Also have friends and family re-share and post. It’s always good when someone can leave a review.
