We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was in high school, I sang for the first time in Sex Ed class… believe it or not. After that day, everyone wanted to hear me sing. I became a soloist in my high school concert choir and I performed at every assembly. Even though I had people who loved hearing me sing, I had a lot of haters who said I couldn’t sing and unfortunately I developed stage fright. I let it control me. After many years of unsuccessfully auditioning for every talent show on tv, I finally had a chance to be signed to a major label. I audition for this label at Boardwalk 11 in Culver City. I bombed so badly that the executives were gone when I got off stage. I was only 21, but I gave up on my passion to sing. 10 years later, I went to a concert and I was pulled on stage by a multi platinum rapper/producer! The validation I received from that encounter, sparked a fire inside of me that has continued to smolder. It still took me a few years to kick the stage fright, but I Finally kicked it because it took me realizing how great I was and not the validation from others

Jasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jasmine JayDavi Davis. I am an independent recording artist who is known for writing hooks for rap artist! Now, at my big age, my original music is streaming worldwide and I’m releasing a debut album with my first single coming out in August of this year. I also host Independent Artist Connect showcase, and I mentor young adults who need help with their stage presence. Currently, I’m looking for musicians. I’m starting a 90’s tribute band, so check me out at jdavi.com.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when I’m singing on stage, I make eye contact with people and I can feel their energy. I can tell that they respect what I’m doing and they are thirsty for my next word. That’s why I know my first single “phases” is going to make people feel like this is what R&B should sound like

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to form a band and go on tour opening for a major artist, eventually earning a residency and performing 90s and my original music every night,
