We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Deciding to quit my job bartending and college to become a entrepreneur was quite the risk. I knew helping others and fitness was my passion and focusing on entrepreneurship was necessary. The main reasons i decided to own a personal training business was to make a impact in African American households and demonstrate that being healthy is necessary to prevent health problems. A lot of my immediate family members suffer with diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. I knew that my purpose was bigger than me. When I first quit college I had no direction on what i wanted to do so i started bartending. The late nights and constantly being told what to do wasn’t for me. I knew that I had to be my own boss. I slowly started to promote myself as a personal trainer and gained clientele, but I knew in order for business to flourish I had to dedicate myself to my business full time. I took a step back from bartending and only had $300 to my name. I decided that it was time to truly focus on entrepreneurship and it has paid off. I am now a successful personal trainer who creates her own schedule and doesn’t have to answer to anyone.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My fitness journey kicked off as a client at Parks Health and Fitness of New Orleans, where I fell in love with helping people reach their dream bodies. Fast forward almost a year, and I’ve trained under some of the city’s best and traveled to fitness events in Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta.
Now, I’m running my own show with a fitness business that offers in-person and online training. Whether you’re into HIIT, strength training, Pilates, or something else, I’ve done it all. I’m all about the personal touch, whether it’s one-on-one or in small groups, and I’m here to make people’s journey to become a healthier you both fun and effective.
I’m always diving into the latest fitness research to keep my game strong and help you reach your goals. Staying ahead in research and studying under some of the best has truly helped me elevate my game.
As someone who always struggled with loving their body, I want everyone to know that becoming the best version of themselves is important.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has definitely been the most effective way my business had grown. The more personable you are, they more people will refer you to others. Always stay relatable and personal no matter much your business will flourish.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Personal Training was my side hustle when i first started. I was bartending and in college while I was training. Once i decided that I had enough of college and bartending, I took a risk and started training full time. At first it was rough, but now my business is flourishing. I get inquiries on a daily versus when i first started i would barely get a few a month. Now i am a successful business owner and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
