We recently connected with Jasmine Hawkins & Crystal Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine & Crystal, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our company’s mission is driven by a commitment to empower and uplift women. We aim to create a platform that celebrates diversity, encourages self-expression, and fosters a sense of community among women. This mission is profoundly meaningful as it reflects our belief in the strength and potential of every woman, inspiring us to provide resources and stories that resonate with their journeys, challenges, and triumphs. It’s about fostering a supportive space where women can thrive and truly become their best selves.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Crystal’s inspiration was sparked from the movie 13 Going on 30, that fostered a vision of creating a magazine that authentically captures the diverse experiences of women.
Teaming up with co-founder Jasmine Hawkins, the two of us bring a unique perspective to the media landscape.
Jasmine’s personal journey, marked by the necessity to keep her struggles silent, fueled her commitment to providing a platform to authentically share the stories of other women and empower them to share their voice with the world.
We specialize in delivering content spanning lifestyle, culture, and personal development, and addressing the multifaceted aspects of womanhood. Our mission is to break the silence and create a space where women can connect, find inspiration, and share their authentic experiences.
What sets us apart is our dedication to authenticity, inclusivity, and fostering a community that transcends the pages of our magazine. We take pride in offering not just content but a movement that encourages women to embrace their uniqueness and thrive.
For potential readers and clients, Crystal wants you to know that the magazine is more than ink on paper; it’s a dynamic force for change. Crystal and Jasmine invite you to join them on this empowering journey, where every woman’s story is a vital piece of the narrative you are shaping together
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a pivotal moment when we had someone request to be featured who was deeply immersed in spirituality, which doesn’t align with our God-affirming brand. In maintaining our authenticity, we made the decision to refund her payment, but not without facing some backlash. This experience taught us the importance of careful consideration in our processes when it comes to our features.
In response, we implemented a proactive approach by clearly outlining our core values on our website, social media platforms, feature forms, and emails. This not only helps us avoid potential conflicts in the future but also ensures transparency with our audience and contributors, aligning with our commitment to being a God-affirming brand.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Jasmine and I (Crystal) crossed paths eight years ago in a Facebook group. A post about finding an accountability partner caught our attention, prompting us both to comment. When I realized that we lived in the same state, I reached out to Jasmine via DM, proposing that we become accountability partners to support each other’s businesses. She agreed, and from there, we began collaborating.
On December 30, 2022, after Jasmine had a challenging experience with another magazine brand, I approached her with the idea of venturing into business together to create our own magazine. The spark ignited, and the rest, as they say, is history. Our partnership, rooted in shared values and a passion for empowering women, has become the foundation of our journey in creating a meaningful and impactful magazine.
