We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Corytte recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine , thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My experiences and lessons in womanhood have been the teacher that is allowed me to be a student. As I have gotten older, I have learned to accept every facet of my journey through womanhood and with accepting it, understanding the strength and power that it holds. My courage and ability to be vulnerable served as a catalyst for wanting to connect women all over the world through womanhood. I believe womanhood is the language that all women speak and comprehend, regardless of race, nationality, or geographic location. Knowing what I know now, I could have created this space for women years ago if I understood the idea that women (regardless of race, creed, or geographic location) battle similar challenges and celebrate similar victories. We are all one of the same simply because we are all on this journey of womanhood and there is no story unique to a sole individual. Cocoon by Jasmine has become a space that allows women to celebrate their wins, acknowledge their losses and exist in a journey of self-discovery through womanhood. Managing this space requires patience, vulnerability, courage, and a willingness to heal yourself by uplifting others. These skills are essential to storytelling but most importantly, connecting with your audience. These connections and the development of the community come with its sets of obstacles, but I have refused to allow them to stop me from evolving and providing this space for women. Therefore, my obstacles do not exist because they have merely become steppingstones to become a greater creative.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jasmine Corytte, creator of the online community known as Cocoon by Jasmine. My community allows women to close the gap between who they were, currently are and who they want to be. The space allows women to take a journey of self-discovery through sisterhood by providing inspirational affirmations, helpful tips for personal development and a sense of comfort through relatable content creation. I created this space in October of 2020 after years of feeling internally alone while battling experiences that only women can relate with. During the pandemic, I found myself wanting to share my experiences with others, not only release the negative energy attached to that feeling but I wanted to ensure that others never feel alone when going through situations we deem as “ours”. With that, Cocoon by Jasmine was created. Since creating this space, I most proud of my ability to push past the fear of being judged and not received by others because it is saved and uplifting the lives of so many women around the world. While Instagram is the main platform where the community exist, I want people to know that there is power in being yourself and sharing your story.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when your content is received from the people it was meant reach. Your value as a creator isn’t is not defined by the number of likes, comments or shares your work receives, instead, it is defined by your ability to create with an understanding that it will impact those who understand and relate to your art.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am on a mission to positively alter how women view themselves physically, emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically. Society has done a great job at defining the who and how women should be and in return, women have digested a lot of those beliefs and have failed to make room on their plate to acknowledge who they are and how they feel they should show up in society. Cocoon by Jasmine allows women to rediscover and redefine their standards of womanhood based on their personal feelings and beliefs and that is what drives my journey.
