We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Chenell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It wasn’t until my Senior year in college at Parsons where I understood my starting point with my philosophy as a designer; it was the concept of transformation. My senior thesis was based on the concept of Alchemy, I deconstructed menswear suit pieces and transformed it into womenswear clothing. While creating each look, I discovered my creative ability to merge my life experiences & fashion through storytelling that one may find relatable.
Fast forward to now, with over the years of figuring out what sets me apart from every other designer is based on my personal relationship with Christ. My philosophy back then was vague and I felt unsure on how to navigate my perspective in the industry. I started leaning towards the Lord for inspiration and guidance. With every collection I’ve produced thus far, I’m in complete in awe of how deeply God is connected to the brand and how much he desires for people to know about him and His kingdom through using me as a vessel.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
What I offer caters to individuals who invest in pieces that are bespoke, limited edition and exclusive. I want women to not only transform how they look on the exterior but, allowing the concept of each collection transform the internal parts of oneself that leads to, freedom in Christ.
I knew this approach to designing was unique and it would require discipline and obedience. From concept, color palettes, silhouettes, embellishment details and scriptures to use for every title, I intentionally make Him apart of the decision making from initial idea to final execution. This pathway to spreading the good news is something that I haven’t seen done before in the way the Lord is instructing me to do so.
The vision is clear; be the vessel to show how lives can be transformed through faith and fashion using my own life experiences & my relationship with Christ.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Initially when I decided to go into fashion design, I had big goals and dreams set for me to accomplish like, becoming the most well know black designer, dressing the top celebrities, appearing in Vogue & being the highest paid designer in the world. I didn’t realize that those dreams were solely focused on the self and glorifying my own self ambitions.
There was a time specifically my senior year in college, where my purpose had to pivot. It no longer became about myself as a designer but about God and really understanding how to properly use my gifts to glorify Him.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Authenticity. Once you find purpose and the intention behind your assignment, you must find the discipline and obedience to be authentic to who you are. I understand that the Lord can only bless what is authentic and true to you and your calling. And I believe now, people who have been following my work for sometime has caught onto my path of sharing my faith and being true to who I am as an artist.
