We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Bellard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Joseph and Katrina Bellard are my world. If they never knew this I want them to know they were the best parents anyone could ask for. For it was God’s hand, for others the universe, but our pairing was heaven sent.
My mother and father taught me what unconditional devotion and loyalty is. They are patient and kind. They don’t envy or boast. They aren’t arrogant or rude. They do no insist on having their own way. They are not irritable with me. They don’t put me down or say I told you so when I am wrong. They rejoice in the good times and have my back in the bad. Through my highs and lows they have been nothing but a solid support system. They did a lot right but most importantly they showed me how to treat ideas and people that I love with care and consistency.
With our military family background the two of them sparked my love for travel. As a military child I was moved around almost every 3 to 4 years. I was born in Germany. I have lived in Hong Kong, Italy, Alabama, Louisiana, and now Texas. I think I am a nomad at this point. This love for travel made me want to assist others in having these culture filled experiences. I will continue to explore the world for the rest of my life. They taught me not to limit myself. The glass ceiling does not exist for me, I mean of course it does but I have always been encouraged to shatter it because I can. Just like anyone reading this has the ability to break any glass ceilings in their way.
My father taught me to have pride in my name. At the end of the day no matter what happens I will always be Jasmine Bellard. Regardless of the failures we encounter they only have room to improve us. If we program our mindset to believe everything works out for our good we will be unstoppable . Say it with me “this was supposed to happen, next challenge, I am still me”.
I think often times we are only proud to be ourselves when great accolades are attached to us. The truth of the matter is who we are at the core of us is who we are. Human. One thing my father always says that sticks with me is, “You know what you know and what you don’t know you learn.” We are put on this earth to learn and improve. I think if more people would give themselves grace to learn they would be at peace with mistakes and be proud of who they are regardless of outcomes, good or bad. Have pride in your name.
My mother taught me not to doubt my ability to do anything. From a young age she has been my biggest fan. No matter what she was there and supporting. I guess in reality she taught me to be “delusional” (laugh out loud). I genuinely think I can do anything I put my mind to. Nothing is impossible was instilled in me, all I needed to do was have have faith of a mustard seed. Truly in my life that mindset is helping me be extremely successful and fulfilled within myself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I honestly became a travel agent because I hired a travel agent for one of my birthday trips and thought to myself I think I can do this. With my love for travel I just knew it was a good fit for me. I was right, I love doing this! Shoutout to Tamika Harvey, my travel agent and now coworker. I reached out and she reached out to her boss THE Marcus Williams of Impressive Travels and the rest was history. I am very thankful and honored to work with them both.
I can book both domestic and international travels. I pride myself on providing a luxury experience. I only book trips I would take myself. Let me emphasize, If I would not go on the trip, I will not book it. I specialize in all-inclusive hotels, transportation, and flights. I want people to live their best lives on vacation, JB style. Hint the Travel with JB. I want my clients to feel a touch of me on their trip.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn seems so childish but it should be talked about. I can guarantee anyone with a business has dealt with this. I expected my close friends and family just to book with me because it was me. I had to unlearn that support is automatic with personal relationships. It might feel like the people closet to you are not supporting and do not believe in what you have to offer however they just aren’t your clientele and that’s okay. Now that does not include everyone! Shoutout to the people who have been supporting and booking with JB from day one truly your real support comes from people who do not even know you. Who see what you are bringing to the table as a valuable token that can make their lives easier. I had to learn to take the hurt out of a friend booking a trip on their own. Or seeing a client book the same trip they asked you to build a quote for without your help. Yes, it does hurt but business is business. When I realized what I had to offer was for a certain niche of people I did not feel any type of way anymore. The people who you are supposed to service will find you. Be consistent, don’t give up and the clients will come. Clients will stay and refer your business to more clients. This has kept me motivated, the tribe who needs you will find you.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I can not tell you how much posting content on TikTok has boosted my email and booking rates. We live in a visual world. People have to see what you are doing for them to want to invest in your business. Being consistent promoting yourself and showing what you have to offer has been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele.
