We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Batie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
As someone who has always loved the beauty world, but worked in a full service salon that catered primarily to one set demographic , I saw a need for a space that could service ANYONE AND EVERYONE. This includes men and women, kids and adults, and hairs of all textures and lengths. Creating an inclusive workspace starts at the top and I have been unrelenting in my vision. Beauty is for everyone and that is what #SALON is all about.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
While I’m originally from Mobile, Alabama I consider Atlanta home, as I have now lived here for 7 years. I have over 10 years of experience in management and business development. A strong belief of mine is that women rise by lifting one another. As such, I am passionate about empowering women to grow both in business and in life! Outside of the women in the #SALON, I also work closely with other females to help them start and expand their own businesses.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our most effective growth strategy has been two-fold. It begins with our stylists pouring into their clients to meet their needs and teach them to embrace and enhance their natural beauty! We receive terrific feedback from our clients, so the second part of our strategy is simply showcasing them through our social channels and online. We know that a happy client is invaluable as they generate organic referrals and often leave online reviews to help spread the word!

Have you ever had to pivot?
#SALON opened in the midst of COVID, so there were numerous times I had to pivot. From changing traditional cleaning protocols, to implementing masks, and having to be flexible when stylists and clients canceled last minute after testing positive. My greatest example of pivoting in business was shifting my business model. Originally, I planned to be exclusively booth rental in order to give stylists the greatest level of independence and opportunity to grow. Due to the instability COVID caused, many stylists were wanting a commission option. As such, a hybrid model was born where we offer our stylists the choice between both renting or being commissioned stylists in order to best support them in their craft and meet them where they are developmentally.
