We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine & Angelique Gordon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Jasmine & Angelique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

While being in between jobs and picking up odds and ends I was asked to style someone who recently had a gastric bypass. After helping her find a few things to fit her new body type and boost her confidence it occurred to us that we had a huge gap in the women’s shopping industry. Not only was there a lack of size inclusive stores, there was also no one to help you find your best looks and help you discover your signature style. We were excited to help women feel confident and vibrant.

A la mode is a womens boutique and personal styling studio.

We carry a wide variety of styles and sizes. Carryon sizes xs-3xl we are One of the only size inclusive boutiques in the area.

We also have personal styling packages for men and women which include.

We preach self care and body positivity. We are passionate about looking and feeling good while taking on life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Trying to please everyone. It’s impossible. It seems like a no brainer when you first start but it’s just a set back. Focusing on the clients you can help well is the best way to have the business you want instead of running yourself ragged.

Man….. we original started with an online platform which was very difficult to sustain and not very rewarding. It has been difficult to change over especially with Covid. (You never know when something like that will be thrown your way.) there have been so many adjustments that we’ve had to make from finances, systems and staffing. But we’re passionate about what we do and have been able to be patient while we get everything together.
