We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being my own boss has been a goal of mine since I was in my twenties. At the great age of 37 today, I can successfully say I have been operating my own business for 8 years now. Royalty Cleaning LLC has survived through a pandemic and still going strong today even with rising cost to supplies. Throughout the years I have maintained a great customer base but there were many times business was so slow I not only thought about it but I actually had to get a part time job to make ends meet. When I first started my business I told myself I would never work a regular job. Even though I was extremely hard on myself to succeed the reality of being behind on bills doesn’t just magically go away because business is slow. Being an entrepreneur is hard work, and although it comes with the freedom of creating your own schedule, it can at times be overwhelming. Having a part time job allowed me to still run my business full time and it gave me the financial backing I needed. People often think well why don’t you get a business loan or open a business line of credit? But what do you do when all those resources run out or when you are told you don’t qualify? Getting a job while running a business doesn’t make you any less of an entrepreneur. It’s just a sacrifice some of us have to make to further the success of our business.

Jasmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jasmine McNair and I am the owner of Royalty Cleaning LLC. I have been in business for 8 years specializing in residential and commercial cleaning. Serving the metro Atlanta area, my crew and I have cleaned some of the most beautiful homes and even some restaurants at the Atlanta airport. Cleaning is not a job to me but truly a passion. I have loved chores and housework since I was very young. Having a clean space was always important to me so being able to provide this service to others is a dream come true.
One of the biggest challenges I faced in early years of my business was establishing a customer base. When most people talk about when they started their business they often say how they started with nothing. That was me, no money just a great plan and enough ambition to make it happen. So paying for fancy marketing to get my business out there wasn’t in my budget. I started with a simple social media page. After that it was word of mouth. It took years to build my client list. What I have learned is you don’t need hundreds of clients, but instead 10-15 returning clients. Many of my customers have been booking with me since the start of my business. Client loyalty is what keeps my business running smoothly.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is customer satisfaction. When you serve your clients well and do a great job every single time they talk about it to others. I can’t even begin to describe how every single one of my clients has referred me to a family member or friend. This method of working hard to keep my clients happy and satisfied has been proven effective with the success of Royalty Cleaning.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I know I mentioned it before but word of mouth is an old school marketing tactic that has played a major role in my business. Whenever I finish a cleaning job, I can almost guarantee my client says something like “I’m gonna tell my mom/friend/coworker, about you.” I can say with 8 years of business about 75% of my clients now come from referrals. This simple method and loving what I do is what helped my reputation in the Atlanta cleaning scene.
