Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmin Zimmerman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmin, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful you need to be patient. Success comes with time and work! You cannot choose a career path, wake up one morning and expect everything to fall on your lap. It takes dedication and passion! At least that is what I believe. You need to see a future in whatever you decide to do. In my case, I fell in love with hairdressing. I feel very lucky because loving what I do has made the journey to success enjoyable with all its ups and downs. I have learned so many things along the way that I know will help me in any future decisions. I have also learned to never give up and let my work speak for itself. Always keeping an open mind to learning new things and improving your skill set goes a long way on the path to success. I think it is important to mention that what one person may not see as successful, another person will. My goals will be different than my neighbors so we should all be proud of where we are no matter what. If we want more, we just go get more!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Jasmin and I joined the beauty industry back in 2013. The way everything began was by visiting a local school in Fort Worth named Ogle School of Hair, Skin and Nails. As soon as I took the tour I knew I wanted to sign up because I loved the idea of helping women embrace their beauty through hair! I graduated ten months later and that’s where I needed to decide what came next for me. I was still a bit nervous so an apprenticeship is what I thought best. It helped me get my feet in the water and get a better feel of what it would be like on my own. On my own meaning no instructors to fix my mistakes, if any. A couple years went by and I felt like it was time for me to grow and expand my skills so I took a huge risk with zero clientele established and opened up a salon suite. I’m not going to lie, it was difficult for the first few months. Working a second job serving at a restaurant was my go to for flexibility and extra cash to pay my salons rent. Once the word started getting out I was able to quit the restaurant and do hair full time. I absolutely loved it! One of the ways I was able to grow my client numbers was by utilizing social media. Sharing pictures of my work and word of mouth got me to where I am now. Ofcourse, I would not have been able to do all of this without the support of my family. One of the reasons why I love what I do is because I get challenged. Many think doing hair is simple but it takes a lot of knowledge, patience, confidence and love. I tend to tackle a lot of color corrections which can take hours but are so rewarding! To see my clients reactions to the end result is what I live for! Rainbow hair is awesome! Balayage is amazing! Even when the service is a simple grey coverage, I can tell they feel brand new and beautiful leaving my chair.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Artists love expressing their creativity and we all need a canvas. In my world, hair is just that. I am fascinated by what the combination of hair and color are capable of when done correctly. Sometimes I feel like I am a wizard mixing a hair potion where every end result will be unique. That is the beauty of it! No one out there will ever have the same exact look. Everyone has their own showpiece. Sometimes we even get new ideas while the service is taking place. It can be so fun to have something in mind and make some last minute changes. The unexpected can be just as amazing and that is what makes art so rewarding!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The number one priority in my salon is a happy guest. I want every person that comes in to feel comfortable in their space. My salon is your space away from the outside world whether that is one hour or five. Apart from being comfortable, I want you to love your hair. This pays my bills but that was not the mentality that I entered this career path with. I knew how hard it would be to get to a place where I could live comfortably and even then I decided to accept the challenge. The reason why I do this is way more than JUST to do hair. It is because I have witnessed how hair can change peoples lives for the better and as a hairdresser it will always be my honor to be a part of that.
