We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmin Thames. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmin below.
Alright, Jasmin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
What my parents did right with my upbringing is always believing in my ability to be great. No matter what sport I wanted to take up or what pageant I wanted to be a part of, they were my biggest cheerleaders. Even if they didn’t understand choices that I wanted to make, they gave me their advice but ultimately supported me and allowed me to choose my own paths.
Jasmin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jasmin, I am the CEO of Your Loc Muse. In 2020, I gave birth to my first child and at the end of my maternity leave, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Life got real, real fast and I made the decision to leave my job as a Client Relationship Consultant. Fast forward to 2022, I was going back and forth on what was next for me. At the time, there was a lot I didn’t have control over but one thing I’ve always had control over was my hair. So, I decided to loc my natural hair. After starting my journey, I spent a lot of time watching loc content and YouTube videos. One video led to another and I learned how to make spiral ties, with my own twist.
Spiral ties are hand made hair ties made out of bendable wire. I launched in April 2022 as a home based business. In November, I got an office and hired two part time employees. Over the course of 8 months, I’ve created a superior customer experience and product.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built Your Loc Musé audience on social media by focusing on the customer experience. Being an online business is not as easy as being in person. You have to find ways to connect digitally. We do this by engaging with our customers via stories. We also ask them a lot what they would like to see from our brand. When starting to build your social media presence, you want to make your brand relatable.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
We manufacture our product at our office. When I first launched my business, 8 months ago, I hand made everything myself. I went through a lot of trial and error. I also had to learn quickly to communicate with my customers if there would ever be a delay in receiving their product. When you manufacture your own product or even if someone else does it, you want to make sure you always communicate your processing times clearly on your website. You also need to be quick on your feet with communicating any delays.
