We were lucky to catch up with Jasmin Stephen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally when I had gotten my make up done for a high school performance. It was my first time I had ever really had my make up done “professionally”. I remember how much attention to detail she had, how much she enjoyed doing it, and the process with the make up artist (which was actually the choir heads daughter lol). Once I got home and had to wipe off the make up, I remember looking in the mirror and feeling really beautiful in that moment. I was so amazed that through that process and conversation with the make up artist that I was able to feel so confident within myself, I remember, wanting to give others that exact same feeling, and that’s where the interest grew!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been a make up artist for eight years. It grew from a high school performance curiosity to then pursuing a career full-time in the industry. After brewing an interest in make up artistry in high school, I went on to study at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario Canada in the make up for media and creative arts program. I graduated in 2015 and since then had an amazing career in make up artistry. I have done exciting jobs such as the Grammys, I have worked with major brands, such as Nike, Macy’s, Fenty Beauty, Savage x Fenty, and most recently helped with the 2023 Super Bowl. I absolutely love what I do, and I often can’t believe that I get to do this for a living!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative, is the ability to fully enjoy the process of your unique journey. I think whats so amazing is to be able to do some thing that you love and see how far it can take you!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has been such a important part of my journey as a creative. However, it’s definitely not everything! I feel like that in this day and age social media feels like the end all be all, but I truly feel like my most authentic content has grown my audience, the most.
