We were lucky to catch up with Jasmin St. Claire recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmin , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
A Weird Kind of Fame, my one woman show, is one of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on. It’s something that will always have a special place for in my heart due to a personal connection I developed to myself and one other person who truly understood me that worked on the project.
A Weird Kind of Fame started 4 years ago, and I have performed it live many times and am bringing it back to the stage in 2026.
My ex, Evan Wright, was the biggest inspiration to this project. He unfortunately committed suicide last year, but prior to that we had a friendship of 28 years and a relationship of 5 1/2 years. We continued working on the project in clandestine after we had broken up.
He first wrote about me in his book, Hella Nation, and in a very popular LA weekly article “Scenes From my Life in Porn”.
When we had originally started dating, I had moved back to this country after being in Scandinavia for a long time.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my branding, but I do know he was always my biggest fan and had believed in me no matter what.
He had sent me to school at the Second City & I graduated through their conservatory. It was a very eye-opening journey as I had stage fright and I know that sounds funny coming from a background of adult films & performing at men’s clubs.
We had started writing my one woman show in 2017. He believed in me and the show and had encouraged me many times to continue it even up until his death.
Covid prevented me from doing the show for a few years . That’s done now so it’s back to business.
His death was eye opening to me .
I feel as though A Weird Kind of Fame is something I have to continue to perform.
Doing the show is vulnerable and therapeutic . It chronicles bits of my personal life, but mostly my times from the adult film business to current date and everything I’ve done in between and what my turning point was to come back to Los Angeles and revisit the brand that I built.
Without Evan’s encouragement and doing the show and in writing it, there are so many things I never would’ve come to terms with, and it definitely has made me a more confident person.
Jasmin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I had gotten into the adult film business during its heyday of the 90’s. I’m the voice of American shock culture from the era when it meant something. I was notorious for being the most controversial sex symbol. I had moved onto to pro wrestling , which I was a fan of since the 80’s.
I worked for Extreme championship wrestling as an in ring manager /personality.
I’ve always been actively involved in theater as a child up until 2023. I was a part of an improv group and studied acting through Meisner .
I currently do my podcast, Krazy train with Jasmin St Claire, and a Monday night live stream.
I also work for JCW, Juggalo championship wrestling, which is owned by violent jay of insane clown posse
Being that I was in the 90s at its height of shock culture, a lot of people use me on documentaries pertaining to the era, especially ones involving Jerry Springer, as I was one of his highest rated guests
And I still take select acting jobs. I’m fluent in five language languages so I like to work overseas as well
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In late 1999, decided to quit after my third year of being in the adult film business . It really wasn’t for me. I wasn’t into the lifestyle or the drugs and I’d found something else that I really enjoyed which was pro Wrestling. I had started working in pro wrestling in 1998. I just no showed the last adult film I was supposed to do,changed my phone number and started working with Jerry Lawler in Memphis at his company called Memphis championship wrestling while working at extreme championship wrestling most weekends.
I was fortunate enough to meet Bubba Dudley who introduced me to Paul Heyman , who owned ECW Wrestling.
I had reached out to the people who owned Memphis championship wrestling to start working there as well
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Waking up every morning and coming up with new ways to enhance my craft and new things to do. I was like creating projects and seeing where they go.
