Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaslyn Tate.
Hi Jaslyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career as a Tattoo Artist began in 2015. After attending the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta, I moved back home to Louisiana. I decided to try my hand at tattooing and have been leaving my mark on live canvases every since. I’ve been creating since I was a kid so art has always been a unique part of who I am. My first experience working in a Tattoo Parlor is one I’ll never forget. It serves as a reminder that I can and will rise above any and every obstacle thrown my way. I went from Bogalusa to New Orleans, and ended up back in Atlanta about 5 years ago where I received so many amazing opportunities. I was able to familiarize myself with elite artists and network with some amazing people. In 2020 I joined an all black female tattoo tour ‘Ladies of Ink’ and began traveling to conventions around the U.S. In Atlanta, I worked alongside some dope artists who were super supportive of me and added bliss to my journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth having comes easy and I can attest to that. Honestly, I still face old challenges along with new. Some things and people don’t change, but that doesn’t mean I have to stay the same. Growth can be both scary and painful at the same time. However, I know that growth is required to reach new heights. Learning how to respond and take nothing personal goes a long way. Last year I returned home from Atlanta for the second time. It was a hard decision to make but the reason was more than enough to press forward. I lived in a big diverse city where dreams come true so why would I want to move back to my hometown? I felt that it was time to lay my foundation. I have always wanted to own a studio and create an environment myself and others can thrive in. I knew that the bulk of my clientele, security, and family were all at home base. Surely it’d be much easier home than where I was to reach my goal. So I thought. No one can really prepare you for what it’s like to take full responsibility of operating and owning a business. The last year of my career has been HARD. Adjusting to being back in a small town, trying to maintain healthy relationships, losing loved ones, dealing with hate, discrimination, ignorance, and entitlement have all been really challenging for me. With grace, I’ve been able to handle it all and reach my goal. I now proudly own and operate Lynk Art Studio as of January 2024, and am so proud of all I have been able to accomplish in a short time. Everyday I walk in my studio, smile, and thank God! Then I go get a latte from the coffee shop because first things first. Seriously, nearly 10 years ago I made a decision that has changed my life in so many ways. Good, bad, ugly, blood, sweat, and tears have all been worth it. Giving up was never an option, but I’m so glad that prayer, passion, and persistence has gotten me this far.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Lynk Art offers Tattoos, Fine Art, Henna, and Graphic Design. I specialize in black work, black and grey, floral, and henna style tattoos. On the Gallery side, I host painting sessions called ‘Sip & Stroke’, Paint parties for kids, and am launching a summer art program titled ‘Creative Care’ this year for the rising artists in Washington Parish. I am so eager to open the doors of Lynk Art to creatives who need a place to express themselves without judgment. I am most proud of my space and honestly my own determination. What sets me apart from others is my energy, passion, and personality!
