Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jashar Rawlings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jashar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about cost-management? Growing a business is always exciting, but often businesses run into issues when costs grow faster than revenue – have you experienced such an episode? Any advice for other operators around how to keep costs in line?
This is a problem that I’ve come across during the entire time I’ve been cooking and creating music. One thing that has always helped me was learning skills that could cut costs. For example I was a producer before I became an artist so that cut the costs of buying beats which can get pretty expensive. I learned that, how to manage myself and also how to do some graphic design to cut costs on content

Jashar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Okay I’m an artist/producer/entertainer. I’ve produced for artists, I’ve done graphic design for artists, and I’ve been a featured artist for other artists. I have articles writing about me from around the world. I’ve had my music played on radio stations around the world and one of my biggest accomplishments is going on tour with Def Jam and finally cracking over 100,000 streams on a single song
I got into the industry because I just love music. I used to beat on pots and pans and do shows for my parents when I was little and it just kinda evolved into this. It’s been a wild journey and it feels like this is a thing that I’ll always be into. I haven’t reached the heights that I want to yet and there’s always gonna be more steps so I’m excited

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yeah it would have to be around the time I rebranded myself as an artist. I changed my style of music and that was the same time that I started managing myself and creating all my content myself. It was time that I feel like I truly became me. It was a crazy and scary time but I’m really happy how things turned out
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Well one thing for sure I had to unlearn being so trusting. There are a lot of lessons you learn about in the music industry but the biggest thing for me was just learning not to trust somebody on their word but their actions. My word is bond but not everybody works that way
