We were lucky to catch up with Jas & Ray recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jas & Ray, appreciate you joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?

Our first show ever was at Dee’s Lounge, a special place for us that helped craft our sound and vision for this project. We made $80 from ticket sales at that show and though it wasn’t much, it helped fuel the fire that started burning for us this past summer. Both of us have been musicians for a while, so we know how grueling of an industry it can be. Years of no’s and empty shows can make you jaded. But the feeling of buying ourselves burritos from the Mexican grocery store down the street with the money we earned playing our original music for the first time was exhilarating.

Jas & Ray, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Jas & Ray discovered their sound sitting around the campfire with a guitar drinking wine. Their blend of country, blues, and Americana songs feel right at home in Nashville, the city that brought them together in the summer of 2024. The duo is currently working on an EP inspired by life in the countryside and the classic sounds of music city, and plans to record this winter.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Being able to sing and write and perform together has been such a joy. We’ve both done it ourselves on our own, but to be able to do it with someone you care about and can’t get enough of is priceless.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Some people have been skeptical and we knew going in that not everyone would be our fans. But the overwhelming response has been positive and encouraging! People love to see love and it comes in all ways, and I think the world needs more of it.
