We recently connected with Jas Khansourivong and have shared our conversation below.
Jas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Growing up, I spent countless hours watching Youtube videos of creators putting themselves out there and discussing topics of things that they enjoyed. It always comforted me to know that simple acts such as creating skin care routines, putting together outfits of the day, and trying out new foods, interested so many people around the world. It makes me feel seen and appreciative of those who see beauty in the mundane. This inspired me to start creating my own content, in hopes that it can provide comfort and familiarity to anyone out there who needs it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started taking pictures and filming short clips of my everyday tasks, even if they seemed “boring.” What I quickly realized was that these tasks were a great way to connect to people and show that there’s so much beauty in simplicity. We don’t have to have extravagant things to share with the world; sometimes, we just want to share what makes us happy. For me, I love trying new foods/coffee shops, traveling, and documenting daily life in San Diego. I stopped worrying about whether or not my content was going to be trendy, and I realized I would rather find commonality with others instead. If my lifestyle resonates with anyone in any way, that brings me the most joy.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After high school, I suffered from what’s called an AVM, or hemorrhagic stroke. This hospitalized me before I turned 18, and it altered my life course for the next 6 years.
Although I had it successfully removed in 2021, it definitely made me reevaluate what I wanted in life. It forced me to appreciate every moment I had, which ultimately encouraged me to start documenting all the things I enjoyed. I also wanted others to know that it’s never too late to change your path. I thought I wanted to study Business, but I ended up going back to school to become an MRI tech while simultaneously creating lifestyle content. Don’t limit yourself to the world of possibilities out there.

How did you build your audience on social media?
As I mentioned before, you sort of have to force yourself out of your comfort zone. It’s so easy to become wrapped up in other people’s judgment and fear of not liked, but we all have to start somewhere. I convinced myself to start creating reels and post more content of things that made me happy, so I can attract others who do the same. Community is something I deeply value, so I’m always excited to meet new people and learn their stories!
At the end of the day, we have to remind ourselves that these audiences are made up of people just like you and I. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but there will be even more people who do resonate with you and wish for your success.
