Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaryn Dominique. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jaryn, appreciate you joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Certainly! One example that comes to mind was when I had already been in the industry for many years and was a Director of Digital Marketing at a nationwide marketing agency. The thought of starting my own business had crossed my mind over the years from time-to-time, but it never seemed worth the risk compared to a stable 9-5 job. Then the Pandemic happened and, as we all know, everything changed. I was amazed at how many businesses canceled traditional marketing like billboards, commercials, and even direct mail. Instead, all businesses were redirecting their budgets to digital marketing. Suddenly everyone understood the importance of websites, digital ads, email, and overall digital strategies. It was overwhelming, but also very exciting! I learned a lot about what I am truly capable of, as well as recognized the high demand for my skill sets. It wasn’t long after that that I gained the courage to launch my own business with a team of peers I made along the way. The important lesson I’d learned was to have confidence in myself to provide a great service. So far, it’s been the best lesson I’ve learned!

Jaryn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the digital marketing field for over ten years and am an expert strategist with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and content marketing. After working with large agencies in the valley and managing large scale brands, I decided to start my own company, Deviant Digital Services. I was tired of red tape in huge agencies holding back the strategies and success of my clients’ marketing goals. Now my business is built on my knowledge & expertise, no bloated agency fees, and my team is hand picked from specialists and peers I’ve worked with over the years. So we offer agency quality work and expertise but at small business pricing.
Deviant Digital Services is exactly what it sounds like. We help businesses with their digital marketing by running digital ads, building websites, optimizing websites for Google (SEO), or social media management. If it’s online we do it!
We work with small businesses directly, but we also offer our services white-labeled and can be integrated as much into your team as you need. We have experience working with many different niches but some standouts are: B2B, Health & Wellness, E-commerce, legal & real estate, bar/restaurant and so many more!
What I’m most proud of for DDS’ brand is that we’re offering a different solution for our customers. Most agencies try to fit you into a package with set services and overpriced rates, then they roll out the same strategy for everyone. Or people try to do it themselves, but let’s be honest no one has time for that and without proper experience you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and money. At Deviant Digital Services you get agency quality for a small business price and a service that meets your custom needs. If you need us to be white-labeled and fully integrated into your business, we’ll make it happen. If you want to just hand over the keys and let us drive while providing easy to understand reporting, we can do that too. DDS empowers our clients to Be A Deviant themselves and choose their own path to fit their specific marketing needs.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I think most business owners or entrepreneurs have struggled with imposter syndrome at one time or another. I would say I struggled with that for most of my career. I would do really amazing work with clients, but because of toxic work environments or bloated agencies, something would go wrong in a campaign. This fed my insecurity, but I worked a lot on myself to make peace with my imposter syndrome. I studied more marketing and practiced staying educated on new trends. I was a big fan of the TED talk, “fake it until you become it”, haha. Eventually my work spoke for itself, I was managing large nationwide brands and I learned what I was truly capable of.
I won’t say I don’t experience self doubt anymore, because of course I do. That’s only human. However, I have learned to look closer and understand that usually when someone puts you down it’s because they’re trying to control you or elicit some sort of reaction. I’ve learned to trust myself and the work I and my business Deviant Digital Services puts out.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
It’s going to sound cheesy, but I’ve learned the most effective strategy for growing my clientele is just to be myself. People don’t want to be sold and they’ve heard it all before. I know what Deviant Digital Services has to offer and stand by our work and services. When I’m meeting with a new client I tend to be very upfront about our recommendations, costs, and timeline. Some people really respond well to that honesty and others don’t. It’s really okay either way.
As my business partner and husband, Gabriel, puts it: “We’re not here to convince someone to do marketing. If they want to do marketing for their business, we’ll offer them great service and strategy at small business pricing, but we’re not here to strong arm anyone.”
