We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jarvy Sanchez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarvy , thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Our scaling journey wasn’t overnight magic but built on the foundation of client trust. When we first started, we focused intensely on quality, products, and ethical practices with our initial clients. This investment paid dividends as these satisfied clients became our most powerful growth engine through their referrals. Each successful project multiplied our opportunities organically.
The real challenge emerged as our team grew. With more developers came the complexity of maintaining consistent quality, communication, and timely deliveries across all projects. Creating robust processes that preserved our initial standards while accommodating growth became our critical focus. How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my co-founder Carlos Martinez while working at an IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) platform development company. Carlos was my boss and we immediately connected through our shared values around software craftsmanship and ethical business practices. We both believed that technology should adapt to people, not the other way around.
As we collaborated on complex projects, we discovered our complementary skills and aligned vision for how software development should be done – with transparency, quality, and a human-centered approach. We often discussed how we would run a company if given the chance, focusing on building long-term relationships rather than quick transactions.
In early 2020, just before the pandemic hit, we took the leap and founded Leanware together in Colombia. Though we started small with just the two of us as developers, we had a clear vision of creating a different kind of software development partner. When the pandemic forced us to pivot from our initial projects, we found that our methodologies and approach resonated perfectly with US and Canadian clients. What began as a necessary pivot became our defining path forward, and we’ve never looked back as we’ve grown to a team of around 50 professionals committed to our shared vision.
