Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jartavius Edmond. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jartavius, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
Honestly, I never truly had an hero until I got older, and became conscious of life. The more I go through life, and deal with experiences, I realize my hero is my mother.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from her, is to never give up or give because that’s too easy.
She’s influenced my journey by just seeing how much faith she has, it’s inspired me to work extremely hard for what I want in life. No matter if the odds are against, it’s faith of never giving in or giving up what’s gotten me through my journey so far.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, first I want to thank VoyageATL for reaching back out, and wanting to do another interview.
Additionally, for those who don’t know me, my name is Jartavius Edmond. I am a English graduate of Morehouse College.
I found a passion through sports & journalism almost 12 years ago. I was in need of a kidney transplant (I received it January 20, 2011), but during that time sports help me preserve during that time. Eventually, led me to pursing a career in broadcast media.
However, what makes me different from most people in my industry is my passion. I love giving athletes the ability to share their own passions, inspiration in life.
One thing I’m most proud of is myself, and I hope this doesn’t make seem selfish/self centered. I just overcame a lot in life, and just see where I am to where I been? It’s enough in itself.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My life experiences is a pivot itself, but I would say just from the year 2021, and now the year of 2022. Graduating from college was a dream come true, and I thought it was beginning of a new chapter of life.
Honestly, it was headed that until I faced some adversity. I received my first job offer from Warner Media, but never got a chance to showcase my skills. The HR hiring manager ghosted me, and I was heartbroken. I didn’t know what to do, but you know I stayed diligent.
I started applying to other jobs, and got a bunch of “no” until the year 2022 rolls around, and the same people who told me, “no” are became the same ones giving me “yes”
Overall, I used those “no” as inspiration and turned them into “yes” and I’ll be accepting an offer soon.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Reputation starts with, “self” and I learned that by believing in myself.
Also, being passionate about what you love to do, if you’re passionate it’ll show in your work.
I’ve connected with a lot of people, and the media industry is very small, so whatever you in your work somebody will see it. And they all tell me that I’m super passionate about my work.
In addition, my reputation has granted me endless opportunities such as, working with Nike, ESPN, and etc.
It’s landed me a opportunity that I can’t share at the moment, but I’ll be announcing soon.
