We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jarrod Mason. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jarrod below.
Jarrod, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am no doubt happier as a business owner, but that’s not to say that this position doesn’t come with any challenges.
When you’re building your own business, that means you are responsible for everything. That includes marketing yourself, finding customers, completing the work, managing employees/contractors, collecting payments, paying taxes, insurance, etc. The list of to-do’s never seems to get shorter as a business owner and it can be stressful.
And that also includes things that are difficult to get going early on as a business owner like health insurance and retirement investments. When my mind gets to pondering what life would be like in a regular job it typically focuses around health insurance or the employer match 401k. These are things that I think some take for granted when working for an employer, versus having to run your own business.
These are also things that aren’t so easy to come by as a business owner.
However, the freedom you can gain by running your business is simply unmatched in a regular job. Even when my to-do list is stacked with 10+ projects from all different shapes and sizes of other businesses, I only feel a sense of gratitude that all of these individuals trust me to help them in their endeavors. The satisfaction of building something for yourself and to have that sense of trust from others that you created all on your own is unlike anything you’ll find in a regular job.
It’s the ultimate job security – creating something for yourself.

Jarrod, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2018, I started a marketing agency that specifically serves small business. All of my life I have had a soft spot in my heart for small businesses. My grandparents were all mostly entrepreneurs and ran their own businesses and I grew up working for all of them.
Prior to starting the agency, I was working in a sales role, interacting with many small businesses on a daily basis and started to realize that what simply set apart the booming businesses from others was many times simply clean marketing and a nice website. Beautiful marketing had this snow ball affect where it attracted more sales and customers, regardless how meticulously crafted the product or service was. And what I noticed more than anything was these small business had a better product, but since their marketing was lacking, no one knew they had a better product. I knew then that I had to help.
Since then, I have made it my mission to help small businesses build out a beautiful website first and foremost and to help them create a complete marketing package with all of the bells and whistles their large competitors use.
We offer website design and redesigns, social media management, search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click advertising (PPC) and creative services like graphic design, photography and video production. While this list doesn’t encompass all that we do, it provides small businesses with the main tools and tactics needed to stand out in todays digital economy.
What truly sets us apart is that we focus on customer service and delivering the most value that we can for our customers. The bigger agencies will either not serve small businesses or they overprice their services to create an unnecessary barrier of entry for small businesses.
Over the last 5+ years, we’ve helped countless small businesses create a more robust and beautiful online presence and we look forward to the hundreds more we will help in the future.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
While this won’t be your typical funding story, I feel like it can be helpful for some who are just getting started. I essentially started with enough money to cover my bills for a few months. Since I was starting a service based business, I didn’t require a ton of start-up cash, I simply had to provide my skills and labor and outlast my savings account.
I knew that if I blew through all of my cash, I could always go back and get a job, but if I didn’t at least try, I would never know what I could accomplish. So I went for it.
This may be helpful for some because we glamorize the idea that you need “funding” or that every business needs capital to even begin and that’s simply not the case. If you have enough money to cover your bills initially and you’re resilient enough, you too could start your own service business.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our best source for new clients is no doubt word of mouth. It is one of the most powerful sources and one that we are grateful for.
We constantly have friends giving us referrals or clients who will refer their family to us and that truly feels like the greatest thing in the world.
