We were lucky to catch up with Jarred Stanton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jarred, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Experience bullying from different angles as a kid showed me how impactful it could be later on. As I continued to watch how bullying and low self-esteem grew, I knew it would be a heavy problem. With the rise in social media influence, increased need for acceptance I began to see how much we’ve lost ourselves. I wanted to create something in my books to the youth that told them it was okay to be themselves and that it was more than enough. Being different is better than trying to be someone you’re not meant to be. My mission is to inspire self-love and confidence despite what the doubters may say.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started writing journey when I was in High school. It began with me wanting to be the greatest poet to ever lived. After many works, I thought to myself that I could possibly do full books. A few years after I finished school, I got into coaching youth sports that redirected what I felt was my purpose. I wanted to do something inspirational that I’d never seen growing up. Nobody that I’d known ever wrote a book. I figured why not me? I wanted to be a positive influence on the future and promote change in the world today. Today I am a self-published author, my most popular work being my children’s book “How Zoe Made Friends”. With a constant drive I’ve found my work loved by school teachers, counselors and parents as a tool for their children.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Growing up I never wanted to do anything else but excel in basketball. It was my first love and one of the only things I cared about truly. Even though I was in love with the sport, I never allowed myself to maximize my potential talent. Going into my senior year of high school my childhood heart condition caught up with me and I had to stop playing competitive basketball forever. I went through a deep depression after this and had no idea what purpose I’d ever have anymore. The pivot for my life was when I found a new passion for creativity and art which carried me from very dark places. Fear of the unknown and my pain fueled some of my best poetic work.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is knowing that I made whatever it is. Knowing that it was my heart and mind that created something that I see as beautiful. Being creative let’s the soul roam free for me. It’s also rewarding when others can experience what I felt by just reading what I’ve written. A part of me feels like I let my readers into a piece of myself.
