We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jarod Lindsey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jarod below.
Jarod, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
“My name is Jarod Lindsey. And I’m a professional pretender, (laughs) I’m sorry, actor. Started my journey the non-traditional route and studied any and everything I could pertaining to this industry. I still feel as though I’m in the infancy of my career but loving all of the experiences I’m able to enjoy through it’s maturation.” It’s fun doing what you love!
Hi Jarod, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
“Early on as an actor, I felt like I was severely behind the eight ball. Now, I feel like it’s refreshing to be able to have lived experiences that shaped me to be the man I am today. Whether it be boxing, wrestling, my firearms training or working as a bouncer.”
“Ironically, some of these skillsets and the invaluable wisdom I’ve absorbed thorought life has allowed me to make some amazing artistic choices on-screen. So no regrets at all! It’s a blessing and everything happens for a reason.”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, specifically an actor is being able to immerse yourself into the life of another individual. When you get the opportunity to take on a character and dissect their feelings, emotions and shortcomings, it truly is a humbling experience.”
“Also, I think for me it’s been very therapeutic in a sense, because thorought my journey it’s taught me the true value of empathy and vulnerability. But all in all, it gives me the chance to escape this crazy place called “the real world” every now and then. Who doesn’t love that?”
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
“As Yoda puts it, ‘train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.'” “There are many creatives and artists like myself that sacrifice so much to pursue their dreams. As we see now, with the current strike, many people in this business are struggling to get by- all for the love of the arts. And that love, in my opinion is what motivates me to push through.
“I’ve allowed fearlessness to become my best friend. I’ve stayed on an undeviating path through all the highs and many lows of the industry. Can it deter you? Disappoint you? And even frighten you? Yes! But stay focused, keep training, keep auditioning, keep your spiritual center intact, keep being a student of the craft and sharpening your sword, because eventually you will find success. So whatever your artistic discipline is, don’t become a prisoner of fear, or let diffidence consume you. You’re a warrior!”
