We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jarmal Burton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jarmal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
This new book that I’m writing entitled “Dear God… It’s written It’s about a boy living and learning with his Grandfather after his Father passes away and his mother is in Jail he struggles with the transition and his Grandfather struggles raising a kid but they learn together to overcome and progress.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m originally from New Orleans the 7th ward now living in Houston I started off as a Comedian in New Orleans doing shows at Howling Wolf until I was found by Comedian Mark Caesar who formed a group called “PissYoPants” comedy. I’ve performed on the stage with Legends in comedy like Joe and Guy Torry, New Orleans Legend the late great comedian Blowfish among others. I wrote and directed the hit show on YouTube “We Want All Da Smoke” and have played in the movie “Too Dark For Mama”.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would’ve utilized social media earlier in my career because when I first started I was opposed to it but now it’s booming and I’m looking crazy now.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Ring able to touch lives and be a role model to the kids with everything going on in the world today the kids need positive men to look at and being a comedian among other things gives them hope that they can be any and everything they put there mind and heart too
