We were lucky to catch up with Jarling Perez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jarling , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
Vivacious and lovable, Jarling Maria Perez was born in 1981 to Cuban parents in Acarigua, Venezuela. Her parents, originally from Camaguey, Cuba fled the country due to the political turmoil of the communist regime. Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Puerto Rico where they reunited with Alexis’ parents who had also fled from Cuba. There they all began to work for Alexis’s parents who had opened a bridal boutique shop. Once Alexis’ family relocated to Miami in pursuit of the American dream, Jarling’s parents bought their store in Puerto Rico and sold it 10 years later to follow suit. They arrived in Miami in 1992 and Jarling was raised there with her younger brother and her cousins including, Alexis.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Always with her eye on the prize, Jarling is the queen of sales. She closed her first quinces deal in Puerto Rico at the young age of 10 for a package worth $999.99! In 2011, she left her 10 year career in accounting for her love of the quinces world and joined her cousin Alexis at the store. Today, Jarling is the proud manager of Bella Quinces and juggles the madness at the boutique, including her team of young girls who drive her crazy! Her day-to-day duties include making sure all customers are happy & satisfied with our work. Jarling’s favorite thing about planning quinceañera’s is being able to make these girls dreams come true. Jarling had a quinceañera of her own and holds those memories dear in her heart. Even though she ironically fought her mom to take quinces pictures, she’s thankful to her mom till this day for making it so special
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Growing up in the Quinceañera community, Jarling learned from an early age the importance of the right of passage of every Quinceañera. Since then, she made it a mission to share this message with the rest of the community, leading her to continue her journey with her cousin in Bella Quinces. Jarling and Alexis were featured as Quinceañera pros on their reality show, “Sweet 15 Quinceañera”, on TLC where they continued to spread their goals throughout the community.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The social media presence at Bella Quinces all began with the feature of their own reality show on TLC in 2016, “Sweet 15 Quinceañera”. This show was broadcasted throughout the world, reaching communities they never imagined. After this they had people come from places like Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, England and much more, just to take their pictures with the company. They were blessed with the opportunity to continue their journey with their second show on Discovery Familia, “Vestido de Quince” in 2022. These opportunities opened doors for the company allowing them to showcase their visions.
