Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jarius Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jarius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I originally started Underrated Creatives after being laid off from my role as a Digital Account Manager in late 2024. Prior to being laid off, I directed short form content for a well-known rapper and instantly knew I wanted to lean further into the creative space. From there, I self taught myself Adobe Suite and began exploring roles as a Copywriter to contribute to the ideation phase of commercials. While networking and having a difficult time finding a full time role, God showed me signs that it was time to start my own company and place the power into my hands. From there, I utilized the videography and acting skills of some of my best friends and started directing spec ads for companies such as Bumble, Home Depot and Everlast Boxing. In the midst of directing, I continued to learn various aspects of the film making process and network with DP’s, editors, colorists and other pivotal individuals to achieve the cinematic quality you see from a TV commercial. Along the way, I’ve received a ton of “no’s,” been ghosted by potential partners, monetarily scammed and have had a few projects fall through. However, God continues to show me signs to keep going and places subtle reminders even through the roughest moments.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m originally from Hollywood, FL and attended Dartmouth College, where I graduated with a Sociology degree and played Cornerback on the football team. Ironically, I started my professional career as a Real Estate Banking Analyst but immediately knew the banking industry wasn’t for me due to the lack of creativity, work culture and lack of diversity. Following my role in Banking, I spent 5+ years in the sports industry negotiating brand partnership deals, managing social accounts, and working alongside large scale sports properties such as the NFL, UFC and Top Rank Boxing. In each of my previous roles, I noticed that I’ve always craved a heightened level of creativity as opposed to managing clients and handling data entry. Being laid off and forced into entrepreneurship was truly the only way to display the level of creativity I feel as though I possess. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to direct content for a rapper in my Digital Marketing role and planned to further grow into the space prior to being laid off. From there, God ordered my steps and birthed Underrated Creatives. In each of our video commercials, we aim to provide unique storytelling which increases client engagement, brand identity and overall company revenue.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The biggest thing that has helped build my reputation is simply posting content. Often times, we allow ideas to sit in our minds or remain fearful of what others will think as we start a new venture. Once I allowed myself to post content without the fear of others opinions, numerous people have complimented my work or expressed interest in creating a commercial for their business. This only came as I allowed myself to grow as a film marker in the public eye.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal for me is to create a Super Bowl commercial one day. Along the way, I hope to utilize unique storytelling and music in a way that hasn’t been done before.
