We recently connected with Jarian Liggens and have shared our conversation below.
Jarian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner is not for the weak hearted. Nor is it for those who have no discipline or determination. you definitely have to be a self-motivated individual to operate in this field. I have personally had my ups and downs as far as confidence goes and believing in myself and my business. It takes a lot of faith I will say, and sometimes that can be exhausting. The security of having a regular job where the pressure is not all on you, you are not the boss. All you have to do is what you’re told and collect your paycheck whenever it is issued. From a certain perspective this can almost seem attractive to someone who has been doing it all. I learned this lesson whenever I decided to put my company to the side so that I could have a little more stability in my life. Deciding to take on a job for a property management company doing the maintenance. Not to be Brash but I have a pretty good resume so I never really worry about getting a job. I always worry about if I will be happy with it, as happy with it as I am with my company. Also this job was a piece of cake let me tell you. I mostly drove around in my car all day checking on different properties. considering this was a pretty big Property Management Company I was charged to oversee the regular maintenance of about four different properties. If any problems should arise I would go to my company phone they supplied me with, and easily call whatever vendor or contractor was needed for the task. My only Job was to oversee them while they did it. Also they paid gas mileage for your travel. The job came with a $2,000 sign on bonus. I could have gotten a place if I wanted to with discounted rates, and on top of all that they paid me $21 an hour to basically sit in my car all day! Cake right! I literally thought I hit the jackpot. Yet I was not happy with what my daily routine consisted of. I did not come home with the same feeling of accomplishment to tell my wife about my day and journey. I felt stagnant. I felt bored. I felt as if I was wasting my time and talents! My supervisor who I will not name, would literally tell me to go home and relax while on the clock on a slow day. That’s when I realized the easy life is not meant for me. I love the struggle I love the everyday hunt for my next Revenue stream! It was more than just a thought, actually a real life experience that I had to live to understand that my path is unique and I must respect that and live up to that.
Jarian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ja’Rian Liggens. I am 28 years old, Born in Oklahoma City July 1st 1994. I lived a somewhat rough childhood growing up. As a young adult I gravitated towards fixing things and making them new. I acquired a maintenance position for a property management group and that’s when I began learning the trade. As I worked for them a few years (4) I realized the way they did things was very half way and somewhat shiesty. I did not like that. I decided to move to Denver Colorado in 2018 and in 2019 The Prestigious Painting Company LLC was established. Offering interior/exterior painting services, pressure washing, maintenance and more at affordable rates for consumers. We came up with the name “The Prestigious Painting Company” to set the bar for the quality of our work and customers service! We have been blessed along our journey so far with much growth! We love the communities we do work in and give back as much as possible. Offering charity work for those applicable also flexible prices for under served areas. If you wish to learn more look us up!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding my business at the start of my entrepreneur journey was a great struggle. I say a “Great” struggle because I learned so much in the process! Aside from capital gains from booked projects I learned to be pivotal in my spare time. Learning the financial side of things. All this came with Trials, errors, and research. Gig work is a super hack for entrepreneurs for those who are unaware. I myself signed up for driving gig services to help stabilize my cash flow. Also learning to apply for grants and enroll in pitch competitions for capital award winnings! There’s many ways to fund your business without needing a loan these days, however with combining all methods of funding, including a business loan once applicable, may be rough and time consuming but ultimately worth it.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner’s name is Josephine Liggens. My Beloved wife. We met years ago in Norman Oklahoma, although I was already freelance with offering my own services Josephine added the elements I did not realize were needed. Together we’ve grown and continued to grow our company!
