We were lucky to catch up with Jaren Teague recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jaren, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
There was a point about 3 years ago when I began making changes in my life that would, in hopes, eventually lead to a better overall self worth and a more fruitful lifestyle. I was unable to continue attempting to achieve someone else’s goals and aspirations so, I convinced myself that there was much more to life and that I have much more to offer than just a kind voice behind a phone from 9AM-5PM.
That’s when I picked up my camera.
At first, it was my iPhone photographing the randomness of life. As a year went by my spirit, clientele, and social following grew and so did my equipment. The rest is history in the making!
Jaren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jaren Teague. I’m a 28 year old, African-American Cinematographer from Salt Lake City, UT.
I began my professional journey as a cinematographer about 2 years ago in 2020. At the time, an old business partner and I traveled from state to state quite often, which influenced me to document these adventures showing our day-to-day responsibilities. The consistency of filming then had helped me form an understanding of media and content creation. That soon expanded into managing my business partner’s branding and marketing from photography to videography.
After countless hours of continued studying and consistent practice, I have nurtured what was once a hobby, now into my current career path. The birth of FATEAGUE Media. My visibility for cinematography is continually growing interest in the eyes of many and I intend on increasing that interest with furthering progression.
Through my work, I have aimed to inspire the very individuals observing it. Stating that I believe there is something more to each person out there and I implore these individuals to take a step away from any distractions to discover themselves. We all have something to offer and if you haven’t found that then let it find you.
I currently offer services extending from commercial ad work to personal video/photography projects. Whether I am assisting in building your business through creative venues or helping the world see what you’ve created, either course I strive to show off what my clients have to offer in a manner that suits their exact vision.
“Here lies nothing in a world without creation.”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There have been many times over the years where I began thinking that what I was doing was maybe not the right thing. This was due to me looking at everything in a monetary view rather than the vision I had when I started which was to do it because, I love it.
Things get slow and I’ve only been doing this for so long. These are my rough points, however, the more I push forward through hardship the more I am rewarded in doing the exact thing I set out to do. This is why I keep pushing.
If I had given up I wouldn’t have been able to shoot with my favorite photographer, wouldn’t have been able to travel, and wouldn’t have made the friends I have made going through the process. Times get rough, but I get rougher.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am currently working towards being able to secure bigger contracts from more notable companies (Cars and clothing). This will allow me the support to continue moving forward and advancing within my career, and also simply expand my network of friends and clients.
