We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jared Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jared thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Being a Full-Time Film-Maker is the biggest risk I’ve ever taken, But ironically, Its also my safest bet. I’m risking stability, a piece of mind, a “safe” life, and whatever else seems like comfort. Between my pride and my passion for what I love to do, I’m aware of the depths I could reach behind this before I reach the Heights. But since I already know what’s down there, I’m not looking down.
Jared, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
“Wish”.. Where do I start… I know everything has been done already, So I knew my first written feature-film had to be so left-field. Once I found a message that was meaningful and strong enough to stand the test of time, I chose to write it, but I couldn’t settle for writing it like a regular movie, I chose to write as a Thematic-Montage (Multiple Stories in one) to assure It can be respected as an Original Piece.
Once I raised enough money from the support in Daytona Beach to do a Casting Call, I quit my job at Waste Pro and proceeded this journey that’s been paved for me.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Everything around me is usually crumbling in my face during all of this (Court for Eviction this week, eating Peanut Butter for dinner off a spoon, etc.. ) I have family that helps me at times, but I’m 29 now, and I refuse to put the burden of my journey on anyone else.
Through these times I practice “staying still in rough-waters”,Not giving into the pressures of failures. Every-time I stick it out and don’t conform to a “safer” path, I’m rewarded to the next Level.
Basically relying on faith over fear.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society should keep doing what they are doing. They aren’t responsible for my success or my happiness. Support who you support, and don’t support who you don’t support.
Either way, you ain’t stoping this.
