Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jared Mcfarland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jared, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
As of today I can say yes I earn my living of my tattoos and other artistic means such as drawings, paintings etc. My journey started back in September of 2016 at L&G tattoos in panorama city prior to this I was working 9 to 5s anything I could to make a buck. On my days off from whatever job I was working at I would go around the valley to tattoo shops and asked if they needed an apprentice or any help of course no one needed help. I kept washing dishes until L&G gave me a callback and that’s where my tattoo career took off. I admit i was scared and excited because I haven’t done a formal apprenticeship and here I was about to tattoo on my first day at a tattoo shop. I think of the major hurdles of my career had to be the COVID epidemic it was a tough time for everyone I earned a lot clientele during that time which i still have to this day. I feel like the way everything has turned up to be in my life is at the perfect moment and I wouldn’t want to speed up the process in anything when the time is right the time is right. Wouldn’t want me to speed up your tattoo just to get it done ? I’m happy were my tattooing has taken me and all the doors it has opened for me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the tattoo industry in 2016 at a local tattoo shop in panorama city. It was a great way for me to put my foot in the door my whole life I had been artistic but tattooing was different for me it was my form of escaping and doing something positive with my life. I feel like my clients love the fact that I’m sincere with them and always have time to listen to their stories and make their tattoo ideas come to reality forever and seeing their reactions in the mirror gives me a sense of purpose this is what I’m meant to do in this world. I think was sets me apart from other artist is that I don’t do this for the money but the love of the art and my knowledge I have behind it and that every piece I do takes a little of my soul.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Seeing my mom struggle raising me alone working 2 jobs to support us is what always has driven me to pursue greatness til this day my mom still works at 68. My goal is to become a better man each day learn about myself that way I can convey it into my life and my art.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The best reward I get from my tattoos is that my mom is proud of what I have done with my art and most importantly I’m leaving my legacy behind through everyone tattoo I do
