We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jare’d Goodloe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jare’d , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is the sum of failures and lessons. I have learned more in my failures than I did in my victories. I have learned how to pivot when necessary, how to stand when all has failed and I learned that things will eventually work out.
Jare’d , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a real estate agent who primarily works Brooklyn. I chose Brooklyn because it’s the burrough that best describes my personality, laid back, easygoing but exciting at the same time. I’m from the Midwest so it’s the burrough that feels the most like home too. I’m very big on my workouts, I actually run my business like a workout. I’m an early riser, so I can get my reading, prayer and meditation, and workout done before the day starts.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The Covid Lessons
I learned in 2020 that when stuff falls apart you can do two things: sink or swim. During this time, I had 4 deals fall apart. I wasn’t getting any referrals and business dried completely up. What I did was, I poured more into my craft. I read as many books that I could about business and mindset, took classes to sharpen my skills and pinned my feet to the floor. It took until last year to see the tide finally start to shift, that’s a long time of waiting. My biggest lesson in that is sometimes you can’t see the horizon so you have to create your own.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn two things: fear of failure and success. The fear of failure comes from me always succeeding at what I did. I always was number 1 in my previous roles when it came to results. When I got into real estate, I had to face the music that I had to learn how to run a business all over again.
Fear of success- because it took me so long to see the tide turn, what felt like overnight was years in the making. I had to start to affirm that I deserved where I was. I had to realize that I put myself here and my continuous actions will keep me here.
