We recently connected with Jared Folsom and have shared our conversation below.
Jared, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission statement here at Folsom Management is “quality over quantity.” Am I the largest property management company in Sedona? No. Do I want to be the largest property management company in Sedona? Also no. What our mission stands for and means to me is ensuring that we provide the absolute best experience to not only the guests that stay with us, but also the Owners that we work for. I want to make sure that my guests and my Owners know that they always have a direct line to me, the Owner of Folsom Management. This also allows us to maximize the highest quality reviews as well as revenues for those that we represent. I pride myself on building personal relationships with my Owners as well as my guests as it ensures property retention and makes sure that our guests are excited to come back and see us and stay with us again in the future. We are always looking to achieve bigger and better things and we are on a steady path of growth here at my company but we do it in a way that benefits the Owners of my properties, the guests that we serve and us here at Folsom Management.
Jared, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Jared Folsom was born and raised near Bangor, Maine and moved to Arizona when he was 14 year old. He has an extensive knowledge of the Greater Phoenix and Northern Arizona areas. Jared is currently raising his three children in the Sedona area and manages homes throughout Arizona. Beyond his love for family and real estate, Jared’s other passions include golfing, brewing craft beer and watching his beloved Packers #GoPackGo.
Jared began his career in hospitality with Marriott International starting from a Front Desk Agent, then moving to Director of Sales to General Manager. In 2021, due to the pandemic, Jared was forced to think of the next direction his career was headed and that is when Folsom Management was born. With his combined experience working in hotels, he was ready to start a new chapter with managing Vacation Rentals in beautiful Sedona, Arizona.
Folsom Management was an instant success. In its first year. Since 2021, Folsom Management has acquired over 40 homes in its portfolio and was voted Sedona’s Best Property Management Company of 2022 by “Best of Sedona”. In 2022, Jared acquired his real estate license, working under Berkshire Hathaway Home Services which has expanded his knowledge of the Verde Valley real estate market and allows him to provide another avenue of services and home sales to his guests.
Folsom Management is a FULL service property management company and we handle everything from guest service requests, maintenance housekeeping, customer retention and so much more. We pride ourselves on the quality of service that we provide not only to our guests but also our Owners.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I moved to Sedona in 2019 with Marriott to open a hotel in the Village of Oak Creek. The Element Sedona. As the pre opening Director of Sales and Marketing it was my sole mission to get to know everyone in town and not only foster but build those relationships. I met some amazing people along the way that introduced me to even more amazing people which in turn helped me build an amazing business relationship and reputation with those in our community. When my position at the hotel fell victim to COVID I had to choose an alternate route and figure out what my next moves were going to be to support not only myself but my family. That’s when Folsom Management was born.
Those that I had met in the community heard about my situation and were there to support me in my new business venture. It was only through personal referrals that I got my first three properties under management. Once I was successful in managing those I received more referral and then it became a snowball effect of Owners referring other Owners to my company based on my reputation and hard work eithic.
I think having a good work ethic and good name in our small community helped my business thrive within our first 6 months and I will never forget the people in my life, whom I still have a very good relationship with, that helped get my business off the ground.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My Co-Founder is also my wife and life partner, Celeste Folsom. She has been a true inspiration to me and an instrumental part of my business success. Celeste and I met in Scottsdale, AZ in 2012 and have been inseparable ever since. We are both incredibly hard working and strive for nothing but greatness. One of the favorite stories I love telling people about is how she encourage me to go out on my own once I had to figure out an alternate path after I was let go from the hotel.
I was sincerely concerned about us being able to stay here in Sedona as it is an expensive place to live with a family. She was actually the one that proposed that I start my own property management firm once being let go. I’ll never forget the day we had the talk as my statement to her was “what if it doesn’t work?” She looked me dead in the eyes and said “what if it does?”
I knew right then that is exactly what I was meant to do and I knew it was going to be a success. Celeste run’s the back end operations of Folsom Management and also has a very successful marketing agency of her own called Indigo Agency here in Sedona, AZ. She handles my graphic design, website and so much more for our company. I truly couldn’t do what I do or be the success that I am without her.
