We were lucky to catch up with Jared Dalton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After returning back to the States from pursuing a music career in Perth, Australia, a friend of mine noticed that my social media was always flourishing and consistent – showing highlights of my music, videos on concerts I hosted locally, and pictures with local artists. Now, this was in 2012, when Facebook was just getting popular and MySpace was starting to phase out and I was adamant about making sure that I was getting my name out there. I was doing my own digital marketing before social media ads got popular. Well, a friend of mine was also pursuing a career in the music industry and asked me to manage their social media account like I did my own. At the time, I thought it was just something I did naturally. I really didn’t want to take on my friend’s accounts at the time, but I was willing to help him out. It was probably six years of me managing my friend’s social media pages before officially deciding to take on digital marketing as a business venture, developping a logo and my website. In 2017, business owners knew that developing a social media presence was a must if they wanted people to know about their company. When I got more serious and official with the company I knew it would work because I saw the trend and uptick in social media users, the Facebook ads came out and I knew their logic in maintaining and building our digital marketing agency. There are a number of businesses that lack a good digital presence online, and the Jared Dalton Agency was how I knew I could help those businesses matter how large or small, in today’s age everyone needs online marketing. There is no unique approach, I just wake up everyone day and do what I have always been naturally good at – promoting businesses. That’s what makes me most excited, helping other businesses grow their reach and clientele.
Jared, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What sets my company apart from other digital marketing companies on top of my years of experience firsthand is that my company is a full-service marketing agency. We start with the idea from our client, bring it to life through graphics or content development and post the information on your timeline. The whole approach of the company is to make sure that the business owners don’t have to worry about their social media. Our clients get to focus fully on their own business while we handle all the marketing.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Honestly, being a small business owner in itself is a story of resilience. Anyone who is willing to take the risk of leaving their full-time job to pursue their passion has to have resilience because there are times when business is great but there are also bad days when you aren’t sure if you made the right choice, but you have to have perseverance, be consistent and trust your business model.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Even if you are an entrepreneur, you have to make time for life. Everyone says you have to work 24/7 and have a grind and hustle-type of mindset to be an entrepreneur/business owner. That the more you work, the more money you will make. Although there is some truth, you don’t have to burn yourself out to succeed. I live by the mantra, work smarter not harder. I set a schedule for myself and try to stick to it. Within that schedule, I am focused and efficient so that I can spend time on other tasks and life commitments. It’s truly always a balance.
