Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jared Crowley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jared, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think I’ve known as early as I’ve been able to imagine the idea of a career. As a kid, I was always enamored with any behind the scenes content I could get ahold of. All of the DVDs I owned had the same situation; the first disc, the one that held the actual movie on it, would maybe have a few scratches here and there, but would generally be in pretty fair condition. The second disc, however, the one full of mini-documentaries peeling the curtain back on how these movies were made, would almost always be trashed. Looking back at all the time I spent watching that type of content, I think that’s where the idea of being a “professional” creative must have stemmed from. I would get so locked in to watching these people work together to solve problems and create something really meaningful.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a 25 year-old videographer based in Kansas City, with a particular interest in shooting music videos and interviews with artists. I love working with people with a clear, passionate vision, and translating that vision into something very pretty and moving to watch. I love the phrase “pretty is perfect”. I try to remind myself as often as I can that making something as gorgeous as possible is not only worth it, but it’s the element of my art that is most dear and important to me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being super connected to a team of people has made some of the weirdest, most annoying situations still feel so rewarding and fun. I adore working with beautiful, brilliant people and watching everyone bring their best to the table, especially when I’m in an environment where everyone is locked in on the exact things that make them unique and special.

Have you ever had to pivot?
To be honest, most of my creative life has been pivoting back and forth, hahaha. I’ve always had a strong love and passion for both music and film, and have spent large amounts of time pursuing both on and off. It wasn’t until I shot my second music video near the beginning of this year that I felt like I finally landed and had a tangible road ahead of me in filmmaking. Getting to experience all the things I love most – teamwork, experimenting and solving problems in the moment, crafting someone I love’s vision into beautiful images – really settled it for me.
