We recently connected with Jaqushia Buddie and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaqushia, thanks for joining us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
One of the wildest things I’ve done in my business journey is consult with God. I used to really want a regular 9-to-5 job, thinking that would make me feel more like everyone else. But God clearly had other plans for me.
In 2023, I decided to ask Him what He wanted me to do with my life and requested an undeniable experience that would leave no room for doubt. This was just between me and God—nobody else knew about it. To my surprise, I pitched my business idea and won the grand prize! Honestly, I didn’t even think I’d make it past the first round.
Since then, I’ve seen doors open that I never could have opened myself, leading me on an incredible journey I never expected.

Jaqushia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey there! My name is Jaqushia Buddie, and I’m the owner of Buddies Pork Rinds & Lemonade. I fell into this business as a pivot after struggling to sell Italian ice—I spent most of my time just trying to explain what it was! Then one day, a light bulb went off, and I started making fresh-squeezed lemonade. There’s something nostalgic about fresh-squeezed lemonade and pork rinds that really resonates with my customers; it brings them back to their childhood. When you purchase my products, you’re not just getting a snack; you’re tapping into old memories and experiences.
My pork rinds aren’t just your average snack; they’re made with fun flavors that really stand out. I put a lot of love and creativity into each batch, aiming to create something that tastes amazing and appeals to those looking for something a bit different. I’m super proud of the community we’ve built around our snacks—people who appreciate the hard work and heart that goes into making each rind. Our tagline is “Taste the tradition, share the joy,” and when you choose my products, you’re supporting a brand that genuinely cares about quality and flavor.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We typically operate for about six months each year, from April to October. After a meeting with my mentor, I received some valuable advice: to tackle one of my biggest fears—getting my product into stores. This would help ensure I have a steady income during the winter months. With a leap of faith, I adjusted my business model, and now I’m excited to say that my pork rinds are available in seven local stores around the Murfreesboro area!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy. It’s a tough, competitive world, and you can’t count on a steady paycheck like you would with a traditional job. If you don’t hustle, you won’t see any income. I’ve faced my share of closed doors and moments when I wanted to throw in the towel. For example, I had a contract with a local school but lost it to someone doing the exact same thing as me. I was hurt at the time, but looking back, I realize it was just my time to move on—I wasn’t ready. Since then, I’ve been so busy that I wouldn’t have had the time to fulfill my obligations to the school. Every time the thought of defeat or giving up crosses my mind, God opens a new opportunity for me.
