We were lucky to catch up with Janmetra l Waddell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Janmetra l, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am the ONLY Live Past Crazy Specialist. I share my story of surviving abuse from my ex-husband who just happen to be the pastor of my church. I help women to R.I.S.E (Revitalizing Individuals Sacred Energy) – I have been on this journey for 18 years and in the beginning,
During the few years of abuse, I was allowed to eat, drink and use the restroom once a day. I was absorbed into crazy. I was depressed and I attempted suicide. I had post-partum depression, I was 400 miles away from my family and I had two small children.
I remember reading a quote in a book – “Don’t let you cannot do Interfere with what you can do” by John Wooden- and it changed my life.
I started to focus only on what I could do, and I started taking small steps every day. Focusing on this quote I was able to represent myself against my abuser and win the case, I finished my MBA and working on my PhD. Focusing on this quote has allowed me to write 8 books and achieve many things that I had not dreamed of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started Sister R.I.S.E because after I started on my journey, I needed a safe space where I could rest, and be proud of where I had grown from, but support for where I was going too.
I help women to R.I.S.E (Revitalizing Individuals Sacred Energy) – I have been on this journey for 18 years and in the beginning,
I now share my journey- of healing- NOT TRAUMA. I share with them tools and tips that can help them along the journey. I hold space for them for where they may be on their journey.
I host Sister R.I.S.E for women who are ready to begin their journey. During the retreat we work on word replacement, releasing, intention setting, understanding our energy and sacredness.
If they are unable to come to the retreat- I host the Fearless Morning Show- every weekday morning at 7:15am on FB and a podcast (The Live Past Crazy Show)
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to learn as I started to grow is that I could not continue to tell a sad story, of trauma and hurt- if I wanted to help others understand that there is live after crazy.
I had to release hurt, anger, and the hardest part fear if I truly wanted to Live Past Crazy. Once I understood the power that I possessed to change this- I begin the journey of releasing all the things that did no longer served where I wanted to be in life.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience was something I was extremely intentional about. I am honest, vulnerable and transparent with them about what happened, how I feel and what I was thinking when I was in the beginning part of my growth process.
I share that everyone doesn’t have to identify crazy the same way. We all have things that drive us crazy- kids, spouse, career, family, relationships etc.. Our stories do not have to be the same for me to understand the journey.
