~A Diamond In The Rough~
Shéic Exchange Formally Known As “The J.Renee Stylez” Originally Started In 2019 As I Was In College On The Campus Of Alabama A&M University As A Personal Styling And Custom Clothing Business. Owning A Business Was Always a Dream, I Got The Idea Of Starting What I Didn’t Know Was A Business At The Time From One Of My Late Professors Who Had A Big Impact On My Life. Fast Forward To 2021 “The J.Renee Stylez” Fully Rebranded Into An Online Boutique Known As “Shéic Exchange”.. Through Out The Past 3 Years This Entrepreneurial Journey Has Not Been Easy But I’m Grateful For Where I Am.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Like many girls at a young age, I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I’ve never had a problem selecting an outfit. At a young age my favorite TV shows were ” What Not To Wear” and “Project Runway”, these TV shows have had a major influence for me, which is why I’m so enthused about the fashion industry. Later in life I decided to pursue my style career by attending the illustrious Alabama A&M University majoring in Family Consumer Science w/a concentration in Fashion Merchandising.
I remember in college I joined an organization on campus called “Trendsetters” which was a fashion related club. We did a lot of fashion shows and behind the scenes work with a modeling troop on campus sometime, on Thursday’s we had what was called “Trendy Thursday’s” where you would put on your best/ trendiest fit which is where I kinda of got the idea of starting a personal styling & custom clothing line.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I currently sell on my site, which is www.shopsheicexchange.com. I feel like for me it’s just easier to market/run on my own site than a third party site. Of course there is gonna be times when you get a lot of traffic and no sales that’s just apart of the journey.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am currently still building a platform market but as far as getting my brand out: growing different things such as: pop up shops, social media ads/posts, word of mouth etc.Make sure you research your target audience before just promoting
