We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janita Michelle . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janita below.
Hi Janita, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Now that your big box companies have jumped on the crystals and spirituality bandwagon some people think that bracelets or other energy healing items are an easy $5 purchase. What they don’t get from those purchases is actual craftsmanship, energy poured into the items or even knowledge of what they are meant for. I have had people tell me they can get their bracelets for $5 instead of my minimum of $25. I wish them luck but refuse to lower my price because my items are cultivated with love and intention. I use only high quality stones for my jewelry and I know my people will find me but it does become a challenge sometimes.
Janita, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Janita Michelle! The Libra Alchemy is a spiritual healing experience brand. I created this brand when I started my spiritual journey. I wanted to make things for people like me who came from a religious upbringing but wanted to heal differently. I learned how to meditate from studying Buddhism and added crystals into my practice. I learned the connection of the crystals to their actual energy and the business took off. I am known for my eclectic crystal bracelets but also teach about and sell crystals as well. No customer leaves my website or an event without proper information. I connect to my customers and I’m told that’s what keeps them coming back. Before, after or during their purchase they can always count on me to assist with any questions or even sit and pray for them. I have also started making spiritual baths that are used to soak in, release the stagnant energy, bring in new and set intentions. Hearing my customers stories of how the energy I provided for them has shifted their mindset is always beautiful to me. I say The Libra Alchemy is an experience brand because your spiritual journey is ongoing and has ups and downs and we are here to cater to all of it.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The Libra Alchemy was birthed from my original brand Asya Janae Designs. My other brand was about creating beautiful jewelry, making tee shirts or anything crafty I could get my hands on. I built an amazing following but felt unfulfilled. I was nervous when I did the shift from making whatever a customer asked for to making only what felt good to me. I was little miss diy. My bracelets are one of one and that is different for my industry so I wanted to build off of that. 2020 I pivoted to The Libra Alchemy and decided that I would use my love for teaching and self healing to uplift my current and future customers. Most of my customers didn’t fight the transition luckily but I didn’t take offense to the ones that didn’t. The transition made people want to know what I was doing because they watched me blossomed so WE are now healing.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn “do what makes everyone else comfortable “. Coming from a religious upbringing the moment I said anything about crystals I was shamed. To them I was worshipping crystals and not God. Once I started quoting scripture that stated that crystals were used for their energies and not the new God, people started backing off. Even if it made people uncomfortable I was doing it anyways. Those same critics have come to me over the years and wanting to learn. If I hadn’t strengthened my mind those people could have ruined my outlook on launching my brand and healing myself and others. Then when they found out I practice Buddhism I was really looked at strange but that’s a different story.
