We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janirette Vazquez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janirette below.
Janirette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I think of handmade soap I immediately think of a green or brown bar of soap with herbs on top. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that! But every time I went to a market all of them looked and smelled the same to me. So I had light bulb moment, what if i create soaps the same way using natural ingredients but making them look different from the rest? What about using colors, fun scents and flowers made of soap on the top. Yes, that was it, I was now thinking of making soaps with soap building bricks on top! If no one else is doing it then you will have the opportunity to stand out.
Janirette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jany and I’m the creator behind the Acryla Creative Studio brand. I studied Graphic Design at the University of Fine Arts and Design of Puerto Rico and have dedicated my life to art since then. While being a YouTube influencer, Skillshare teacher and collaborating with different art brands I decided it was time to use my art in a different way.
I started making soaps April of 2022 after having a conversation with a fellow soap maker who encouraged me to learn. Handmade soaps have always been something really fascinating to me. Just the thought of combining raw ingredients together and playing with colors and textures will make my head spin full of ideas.
When making my soaps I incorporate my artsy side with the technicality of soap making. I love to create aesthetically beautiful products that are not only well designed but great for the skin too! I’ve develop a well balanced recipe that its perfect for all skin types even the sensitive ones.
Our soaps are handmade using the Cold Process Method. We mix different oils with sodium hydroxide which creates a chemical reaction that after completed will create soap.
As of today our soaps are being sold at markets around town, online, at a store in downtown Raleigh called Joy Worthy Co, and at a store at Crabtree Mall. We also offer wholesale and are growing and expanding little by little.
Our motto is that you will not only receive a beautiful product but it will make your skin feel softer and healthier. We want to bring joy to those who purchase our soaps. Seeing the reaction when they like the design and then smell them and smile is just priceless to me.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Having multiple health issues including a heart condition has been really difficult for me. Between being worried about my health, being a mother, a wife and a small business owner at times it feels like a lot. Being able to express myself trough soap making has been a blessing. Art always heal the soul and being able to do art for a living is something that I would never want to give up. This and the reaction of people to my soaps keeps me motivated to push myself and never give up!
How did you build your audience on social media?
My best advice will be to share as much as you can. People are curious about how products are made and how a small business is run. Don’t focus on what others are doing and use your creativity to stand out. Eventually those followers will become customers.
