We were lucky to catch up with Janine Frank recently and have shared our conversation below.
Janine, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Oh gosh, there are so many I could share BUT I am going to keep it short and sweet with my favorites. From the influencer realm, let’s talk fashion. For this season, tans, browns, and rustic florals seem to be what is catching my eye. Faux Leather seems to be the fabric many designers are gravitating towards as well.
As for the fitness world, I think we are FINALLY feeling a sense of “normalcy” when it comes to more and more individuals coming back into the gym and workplace. For the last few years, wellness in the workplace had made a huge shift to the virtual space. These last few months have been pivotal for health & fitness professionals, as we make the transition from computer screens to being back on-site.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Hi, I am Janine! :) A native of Baltimore, MD, I have been in the health and wellness profession for over 16 years. I knew from a very young age what I wanted to do – be the amazing aerobic instructor that my Mom worked out to on a daily basis. I mean, how cool! Fast forward a few years to where I received a B.S. in Exercise Science. I started my journey working in a local gym, and slowly expanded my reach to offer in-home personal training services. From there, I started my own side business, worked for some other local fitness professionals, dabbled in strength & conditioning, and, finally landed in an arena that seemed like the best fit – corporate wellness. It was in 2014 that I became co-owner of “2 Health Nuts;” a Baltimore based wellness company focusing on fitness, nutrition, stress management, and behavioral change coaching. And, trust me, that is just scratching the surface! Not only do we offer virtual services, our on-site reach expands to D.C., Northern VA, and PA.
On the flip side, how did I become an influencer? I briefly lived in Santa Monica back in 2017 and I was looking for a change. Sure, fitness would always be at my core, but I felt a pull to do something different (and in addition to my other work). At this time, the influencer world was really starting to take shape, and I saw a huge amount of potential. I wanted to share my love of fashion, food, beauty, decor, travel, etc. How fun to be able to tout all these things and cultivate an audience that was looking for my expertise? Plus, I LOVE IT! It’s crazy to think it has been 5 years since all of these has come to fruition, and so much has evolved since then too! It’s been a ride to say the least but an amazing one, and I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds in this space. P.S. Look for a rebranding on my site soon!
Speaking of an amazing ride, in June I put down roots in McLean, VA with my husband – yes, it has been an exciting year – and threw a surprise Wedding within 4 months! Did I mention party planning is another one of my favorite things to do as well?
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Be AUTHENTIC in your space – whether it is in-person or via social media – is the #1 way to build a clientele and following. We are in the TRUST business, and it’s about being relatable to your audience!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I will speak on this from the corporate wellness side…referrals! Yes, you may still get 1 or 2 sales from cold calling BUT, in today’s world, it’s all about who you know. Of course, setting yourself apart in the industry is going to be a key factor too.
