We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janie MacMillan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Janie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My life changed when I first connected with the Akashic Records. Before devoting my life to spiritual teaching, I spent over 20 years as a corporate trainer and coach, specializing in leadership and career development. Spirituality wasn’t something she had even thought about—until an unexpected invitation set me on a very different path.
In 2001, a close friend and mentor, Nancy, began gently “throwing out pebbles,” opening me to new ways of thinking about life. Nancy eventually invited me to a class she was teaching—Learn to Access and Explore Your Akashic Records. That invitation changed everything.
I vividly remember my very first experience connecting with my Records: sitting on a sun-warmed rock, experiencing the sense of golden light all around me, and hearing the words, “We are so glad you’re here. We have been waiting for you. Welcome to the party!”
That moment was more than an introduction—it was a joyful homecoming. It awakened me to the limitless love, wisdom, and possibility of the Records, and set me on a path that transformed not only my beliefs, but my attitude toward life itself. Through the Records, I discovered how to embrace joy, release limitations, and fall deeply in love with the adventure of being alive.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an author, speaker, and teacher of the Akashic Records. Since 2011, I have guided students and clients worldwide to access and integrate the wisdom of this infinite source of love, healing, and transformation. I am the author of “The Akashic Records Speak: Yes! There IS More to Life,” and I am finishing my second book dedicated to helping entrepreneurs break through the “unseen ceiling” and bridge the gap between achievement and satisfaction.
Before devoting my life to spiritual teaching, I spent over 20 years as a corporate trainer and coach, specializing in leadership and career development. My professional background gives me a grounded, practical approach to helping people unlock growth and expand their potential.
Connecting with the Records has transformed not only my beliefs, but my attitude toward life itself. I have discovered how to embrace joy, release limitations, and fall deeply in love with the adventure of being alive.
Adventure has always been part of my story. Beyond my work as an author, speaker, and teacher, I have always embraced life as an adventure. An accomplished equestrian, I treasure the lessons learned from my horse, Max, whom I consider one of my greatest spiritual teachers. I have traveled extensively, with favorite destinations including Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, and Italy—each journey offering new inspiration. I have even kissed the famous Blarney Stone while in Ireland, taking part in a centuries-old tradition said to bestow the gift of eloquence and courage.
My adventurous spirit extends beyond travel. I have bungee-jumped, parachuted, and zip-lined, embracing the thrill of stepping into the unknown. I have managed Arabian horse farms, explored winding paths both literal and spiritual, and even shaken hands with a former U.S. president.
For me, these adventures—whether grand or simple—are all part of the journey of living fully and embracing the joy of being alive. These outward adventures mirror the inner journey of the soul: each leap, each path, and each encounter offers a chance to grow, connect, and rediscover who we truly are.
Today, I blend my grounded experience in training and coaching with the infinite wisdom of the Akashic Records. My purpose is to serve as a bridge between humanity and the Records, inspiring others to understand that this profound source of love and guidance is not reserved for a select few—it is available to everyone.
My mission is simple yet profound: to remind us that we each carry the wisdom of our soul within, and that when we open to that wisdom, life itself becomes a sacred adventure filled with purpose, passion, and possibility.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back and choose my path again, would I select the same professions, the same specialties, the same winding journey through corporate America before embarking on my spiritual path?
My unequivocal answer is yes, every single step. While some detours felt profoundly unfulfilling at the time, they were indispensable. Those years in the business world gave me a grounded, practical foundation. They taught me how to set goals, measure progress, and navigate challenges — skills I still rely on today. More importantly, they provided the stark contrast. I learned firsthand what it feels like to have external success while silently wondering why something still feels missing.
It was within that framework of achievement that I encountered the “Unseen Ceiling”—the gnawing feeling that even with accomplishments, it was “still not enough.” That persistent ache was my deeper self, signaling that I was out of alignment. My business background didn’t just show me what success looked like; it taught me what unfulfillment felt like. That knowledge became my greatest insight into recognizing true alignment.
When someone tells me they want “more,” I don’t just sympathize; I know that feeling intimately. When they question whether purpose is just a “side project,” I understand both the practical constraints and the inner conflict. That’s why I can bridge both worlds: translating the whispers of deeper purpose into actionable strategies, helping transform internal longing into external impact.
My spiritual path taught me that purpose isn’t an indulgence; it’s the foundation of a meaningful life. And my business experience allows me to speak the language of results, making the pursuit of purpose and meaning practical, grounded, and deeply strategic. It also makes me relatable to those I work with now: those who feel the quiet ache for something more. I can meet them where they are, honoring their accomplishments while guiding them toward lasting fulfillment, and that is exactly what I now help others discover for themselves.
So while my journey wasn’t a straight line, I wouldn’t trade it. Every profession, every challenge, was a necessary thread in the tapestry of my understanding. Together, my business background and spiritual path give me both perspective and empathy. I’ve seen firsthand that success and alignment can not only coexist — they can bring far more joy, fulfillment, and clarity to life than either could alone.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Beyond training and knowledge, I believe the most helpful quality for succeeding in my field is an unwavering openness – a deep receptivity to both internal wisdom and the nuances of human experience. It’s the willingness to open your heart, to listen to your inner wisdom, and to allow yourself to be guided beyond the limits of your logical mind. Too often, we rely solely on our human brain — which is wonderful for analysis and problem-solving — but it can also keep us boxed in by old stories and limiting beliefs.
And it’s not enough to just apply frameworks. It requires me, and ultimately my clients, to cultivate a profound inner listening. This means being open to:
• Hearing the Unspoken: Recognizing when a client’s life isn’t providing internal fulfillment, and being receptive to the subtle signals of their deeper aspirations.
• Trusting Intuitive Intelligence: Moving beyond purely logical analysis to embrace a holistic awareness. This involves letting go of limiting beliefs or preconceived notions (my own and the client’s) that might block genuine insight. It’s about allowing a deeper, more expansive understanding to emerge, rather than forcing a solution from a purely intellectual space.
• Leading with Empathy and Authenticity: When I approach my work with this level of openness, it fosters a deeper connection with my clients. They feel truly seen and understood, not just advised. This allows me to meet them where they are, honoring their accomplishments while guiding them towards a more aligned and fulfilling path.
Ultimately, this openness allows me and my clients to release constraints and let our deeper selves — our souls and our hearts — lead, creating solutions that are not only effective, but also deeply resonant and sustainable.
